Hi,

I have a problem displaying with Lightroom Classic on my new iMac When I import new CR2 files, the previews are pixilated In development mode, as soon as I click on the file, it appears correctly but if I click on another file, the pixelation returns. The original files are not affected (see example in PJ) I have uninstalled LR restarted and reinstalled, the problem is still there.Your old files are intact. Thank you for your help.

Claude

Corrupt image data most likely.

Could be- Camera fault, Card fault, USB cable fault, failing hard-drive, etc.

Often photos look OK in other software, but then you may only be viewing an embedded jpg preview and not the raw data that has the corruption.

Read some other forum posts with same problem-  https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/raw-files-imported-into-lightroom-coming-out-distor...

Do full hardware tests for faults.

If you're importing directly into LR from your card reader or camera, one simple thing to try is copying one image first to computer. Then import in LR. If that fixes, then you have easily identified problem source as being in the chain.

Thanks for your answers. I had help from Adobe and the problem seems to come from Canera Raw Plug-in. We reinstalled it and the problem is gone. I will see with the time if it's that.

I doubt that you will see a permanent fix.

The Camera Raw (Plugin) is only used by Photoshop. It is not used or needed by Lightroom as the raw converter is embedded in the Lightroom software.

Could you close Lightroom and try using Finder to open the problem image in Photoshop. Being a raw image it will open in ACR first. If you see the same problem then the file is corrupt, or the hard-drive is having intermittent difficulty reading the data from the file on the drive.

From your description, I now believe you certainly have a hardware problem with your computer that Apple will have to fix.

I use Windows and do not have the expertise with Macs to advise you more about Macs.

Re-installing Lightroom will not help if the problem is hardware.

"Images OK in Photoshop" - a 'raw' file in ACR? The same file that looks corrupt in Lightroom? The fault may be intermittent, or only affects files written to certain faulty sectors on the drives.

I have spoken to two local friends recently with problems in their Mac laptops using SSD drives.

I am sorry, I cannot be more helpful, but you will need to seek expert advice about you computer.

Other forum members may have that expertise, hopefully.

Thanks WobertC

Yes, the same file is OK in Photoshop. If i send corrupted file from LR to PS using Edit in Photoshop, the file is OK. I try SSD and normal HD with same result. The USB driver is probably corrupted.

ou are right WobertC, my problem is not solve. Here is a more precise description of what append.

I have a weird problem with my new iMac that only shows up in Lightroom when importing photo files.

I did some tests that really point to my external drives. I explain to you.

When I import files from an SD card or another hard disk to a USB disk (C or 2-3) in the software, the files are corrupted and it gives me glimpses like the image attached which makes the Lightroom Library almost useless. By importing to a Firewire drive via a USB-C - TB2 adapter and then a TB2 - FW adapter, everything works normally.

I also tested to disconnect all my external drives and import to the internal disk of iMac, and there, no problem. I then plug in a single USB HDD and the import has corrupted the files. Very strange, but the tests I did really point to a problem with the USB ports.

Do you have any idea what I could do to solve this problem? I have hundreds of photos to process in the coming days and with this bug, I can not do it, I do not have enough space on my little FW disk.

Oh yes, I also tried to erase Lightroom, reboot and reinstall it without success. Adobe's customer service did not find anything, but I did not identify the source of the problem when I contacted them.

Thank you very much.
