Resetting Preferences in Lightroom Classic and Effect on customisations

New Here ,
Jul 04, 2025 Jul 04, 2025
Hi folks need some help. My Lightroom Classic on Windows 10 is not opening since it updated to V14.4. It sticks at the opening "reading preferences" screen. I've done the usual shutdown reboot etc.

The online suggestion is to reset Lightroom preferences using the Shift + Option (macOS) or Shift + Alt (Windows) keys. My questions is   - Does a reset delete all my personal custom Develop and Print setups? Thanks

If resetting preferences does not cure the issue, you may have a corrupt catalog. I recently built a new Win11 computer. Once I got the apps installed, Lightroom Classic would not start. It turns out that defective ram corrupted the catalog. Once I replaced the RAM and catalog with a backup, all was working fine.

I'm not suggesting that particular problem might have corrupted your catalog, but there are other ways the catalog can be corrupted.

It's not clear what you mean by 'personal custom Develop and Print setups'. If you're referring to Presets (Develop module) and Templates (Print module), then resetting the preference file will not delete these.

Thanks Ian and yes apologies that I wasn't clear. I did mean the custom presets in Develop and Print. That's a great help so I can reset preferences without too much concern.
