Ricoh GRIIIx camera matching profiles missing in LR Classic

Community Beginner ,
Dec 01, 2024 Dec 01, 2024

Hi,

I recently got a Ricoh GRIIIx HDF and imported the photos from the camera using Lightroom Classic running on Windows 10.

I shot both RAW+JPG but I do not see any Ricoh GRIIIx profiles in Lightroom when viewing the DNF file in the Develop tab.

How can I get the Ricoh GRIIIx profiles?

Maybe resetting the preferences is the first thing to try, because John is right that your screenshots look odd.

Did you look in the Profile Browser?

Are you sure that you are working with the RAW (DNG) file and not a JPEG file? I just downloaded a sample DNG file, brought that into LrC, and the profile shown was "Embedded". And I could change that to several Camera Matching profiles.

By the way, when sharing a screenshot in the community, it would be better to show more info, preferably a full screen. Your screenshot is missing info that might be informative, such as the file name of the photo, the initial History, Any issues with missing Navigation Panel, Filmstrip previews, etc

Also, and this irritates some members, many find it better if a member includes screenshots as inserted photos, not attachments. It is more efficient (ah but not for crash reports, those are just too long, so send those as attachments)

I am using a RAW DNG file from my camera as you can see here.

I don't see the "Embedded" option in the Profile drop down.

Nothing happens when I click the four squares icon next to Profile

It seems like that button is disabled?

Did you use this file to test out the Beta of Adaptive Profiles in Camera Raw?

No, I only use Lightroom Classic.

The dropdown menu shown in your screenshot does not show all available profiles, but just your favorite ones. You can add to or remove profiles from that menu in the profile browser (see the screenshot of @F. McLion ). Hover your cursor over a profile preview and you'll see a star in the upper right corner. Click that star to add the profile to your favorites, click again to remove it.

Here is a sample DNG from my camera: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_X5AtA8kzKUY0rANqgMmBI38EhuVOb8Y/view?usp=sharing

The main issue seems to be that the Profile Browser is disabled. Notice how the border of the squares are black and not white. It is not clickable.

When I import that DNG into my LR 14.0.1 / Mac, the profile browser is clickable and I can select any of the camera-matching profiles.

Something curious about your screenshot: Develop is showing that settings have been applied, and Auto in particular has been applied, but none of the sliders have changed:

Have you changed Camera Raw defaults, either globally or for that camera, in Preferences > Presets?

So I think this is an actual bug because I found this interaction.

The only way I can get the DNG to have the Profile Browser button enabled is by doing the following:

1. Select a DNG, notice that the Profile Browser button is disabled

2. Select the next DNG, notice that the Profile Browser button is also disabled

3. Go back and select the first DNG, notice that the Profile Browser button becomes enalbled

4. Go back and select the second DNG, notice that the Profile Browser button becomes enalbled

See this video for how it works: https://youtu.be/EimIkaYl0uc

If I manually do this process across all my DNGs, I can enable the Profile Browser for all of the DNGs.

Which seems like a bug? The Profile Browser should be enabled for ALL DNGs by default?

Upon some googling I found this user had a similar issue and also had to the this weird process to get the Profile Browser to work: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/profile-browser-does-not-work-after-lig...

Is the Lightroom team tracking this bug? When can a fix be expected?

So, continuing to think about this, and your workaround reminds me of similar issue. In fact see the following discussion on the same problem and the same workaround:

There have been at least a couple bugs in the past where LR failed to update correctly various items in the Develop user interface but eventually would after a while, e.g. with lens profiles:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-quot-built-in-lens-profile-applied-quot-isn-...

Unfortunately, unless Adobe is able to reproduce the problem easily, they're not likely to pay much attention unless many people report the same issue.  So things still to try that might narrow down the cause,  provide a recipe reproducible by others, and/or provide an easier workaround:

1. Define a preset that applies the desired camera-matching profile.

2. In Develop, Zoom to 100% and back to Fit. That has worked around some of the past Develop UI bugs.

3. Do Preferences > Performance > Camera Raw > Purge Cache.

4. Reset preferences, as suggested previously:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

Question about resetting preferences, what kind of settings does it wipe?

I have custom plugins, presets, etc. and don't want to reinstall them. Would resetting preferences interfere with things like that?

Actually the article mentions those shouldn't be affected.

I have reset the preferences file, and it seems like the Profile Browser button is working again for all the DNGs I currently have.

Thank you everyone for your help!
