Slow Export (20 images takes a few minutes)

I've been having the problem of lightroom running slow and jerky on my mac for a few weeks. For example, if I want to export 20 images, it currently takes a few minutes, which was much faster a few weeks ago.

You haven't mentioned which version of Lightroom Classic you're using. The latest version being 12.4, which was released last week.

You mention that export is slow. This can be due to the GPU being disabled or not set for accelerated export.

If you post a copy of your 'System Info', then we can usually see whether above are the culprits or not. You can obtain the System Info from the LrC Help > System Info menu item as shown in attached screenshot.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply. I am using version 12.4. Switching to GPU makes no difference. Attached is the system information:

Try setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Custom and unchecking Use GPU For Export. (It's not clear from your previous reply whether you tried this exactly.)

That helped a bit.
But in development mode the images still take a long time to load. Mostly 3-5 seconds. 
A few weeks ago the picture was there immediately

I've had this same issue where the amount of time required for the images to load in the Develop Module has gone from near instantnious to several seconds. I've checked my Lightroom Preformnace settings, none of which changed. What changed was updating to the latest version of Lightroom 12.4.

@Bjarnetel have you determined a fix?

@Justin Kase Conder, please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with me. Let's try to fix this.

Which version of Lightroom have you installed? Do you use multiple apps at the same time? 

Running multiple applications and background processes simultaneously can consume system resources and slow down Lightroom.

Lightroom catalogs can become significant over time, which can impact performance. Regularly optimize your Lightroom catalog by going to "File" > "Optimize Catalog" to remove unnecessary data and improve performance.

The M1 Max chip in your MacBook Pro is powerful and supports GPU acceleration. In Lightroom, go to "Preferences" > "Performance" and ensure that the "Use Graphics Processor" option is enabled. This can significantly improve performance, especially during tasks that require intensive image processing.

"File" > "Optimize Catalog" is a menu that only exists in Lightroom Classic. I believe the OP is talking about Lightroom desktop (as this is the Lightroom ecosystem forum).

I have version 12.4. I had already tried the optimization myself, but that only worked for a few minutes. Changing the GPU doesn't do much either. It's not because of the MacBook either, because I can cut videos in 4:2:2 10-bit format without any problems. But I will delete the post here and post it in the correct forum. Same here, almost half of the speed in my Macbook Pro 14 M2

I've just begun using an M1 MacPro (Max, 32 GB ram, 2 TB hard drive) and Lightroom is unusably slow. I mean, it took overnight to populate the folders section, which then dissapear if I restart the app. Several minutes to import a photo. It's completely unusable. I've tried the steps above, reset of catalogue, and fresh install.

I have the same problem, it's becoming pretty much impossible to use, changing file take more than 2 minutes to show the thumbnail and each action require a waiting time of sometimes more than 10 min

Same issue here with LRC exports.  Not long back there was a release of LRC that significanlty sped up exports.  After updating to 12.5 things have gone backward for sure.  I gernally export batches of 500 images so I really feel the change in processing.    I have and have had accelleration on auto and recently set to manual with all boxes checked.  MBP16 M1 Max with 64GB - this process usually smokes for quite a while.   Also noticing lags with swtiching modules and moving through images again even with a newly created catalog.  This was all performance enchanced and running so swift - perhaps it was a combination of 12.5 and Sonoma.  Argh, feels like a huge step backward.

I had the same issue with my M1 Max 1TB 16GB.

Not even with exporting, developer module was very slow as well and it took 3-5 seconds to load an image. Even with 1:1 previews.
