Hey, wonder if you have any advice for my problem? I am experiencing a similar problem only, I recently updated PS (v20.0.2) and LR (v8.1) and now all of a sudden all my .tiff files are not showing in my LR library? I have tried turning off the filters, nothing. If I edit something in PS from LR (open in Photoshop) and save it in PS. Usually, it will be together with the original RAW file in PS. Now nothing? Searched my whole library and cannot find them. Want to import the tiff files and LR says it is already imported?
Please help if you can?
I've Branched your question as it doesn't pertain to the discussion you originally posted in.
Please give as much detail as possible.
Just updating LR and PS would not cause TIFF files to not appear in the LR catalog.
More than likely you have a Filter turned on that is not allowing the display of TIFF image that are already imported into the LR catalog file.
Go to the "All Photographs" link in the Catalog section of the left hand panel of the Library module. Then Look at the top of the center s

What does "not showing" mean?
Does it mean a gray rectangle where the photo thumbnail should be? Or does it mean the photo isn't present in your catalog anymore? Or something else?

Hey dj_paige,
"Not showing" as in when I am in the Library module and inside the current collection searching for that specific image there aren't any tiff files. like missing in my catalog.

If it isn't then hit the \ key to display it. Select Metadata and in the last column select File Type. Then select TIFF. Like this.
Do you see any TIFF images?

Hey Just Shoot Me,
Thank you for your response. I went and did what you said up until the step for the selection of 'file type' - TIFF. And all the TIFF files are showing. Thank you so much! now, how do I get them to show right next to the original file in their specific collections?

So I thought I'd try re-adding them to my collection, which it did, but now it makes it difficult to spot them as they no longer have that number in the corner saying 1of2 or 2of2.
Also when I choose a new image to edit in photoshop, edit it and save it in photoshop, it usually appears back in LR as a TIFF with the PS edits made with the number 1of 2 or 2 of 2 in the corner. But now It just does not, it completely disappears in my collection together with the original RAW copy, when I am in my collection in the Library module, searching for them both files are not there.
Do I have to go search for the image like you suggested and re-add it everytime?

A bad idea. Undo this ... remove these newly added TIF files from your catalog. IMPORTANT CONCEPT: Re-importing photos does not fix problems in Lightroom; it usually makes the problem worse.
Work with the TIFs that were available before you did this. Try changing the sort order, use the menu command View->Sort->Capture Time or any other sort that you think will work.

Thank you, I did not think of that.
Also, I did not completely remove them from my LR catalog. I only re-added those TIFF files back to the collection where the original files were sorted into.

In your Lightroom preferences under the External Editing tab check to see if "Stack with Original" is checked. If this is checked your edits from PS etc. will be added to a stack like the 1of2, 2of2 description you mentioned.
Also this is probably why your earlier searches failed, after selecting All Photographs you need to expand all stacks as well before doing the search. (Only the top file in collapsed stacks will show in search results)
For current photos not in the desired stacks: sort by filename or capture time to get the photos side by side for easier selecting, then select desired photos, right click and under stacking choose 'add to stack' or press CTRL+G.

Hey bhousto90, Thank you for that, I checked and the "stack with original" is on.
Like I mentioned, when I edit and save a photo from PS it does not go into this stacked sequence, my original RAW file in LR and the TIFF file that goes with it disappears from the collection I sorted it in.
Thing is I might not be explaining it really well but I did certain steps and it never gave me problems until I updated it yesterday.

What EXACTLY do you mean by Re-Adding them to my Collection.
There is the LR Catalog file. That is the main Database file that LR uses. It is where LR stores all the references to the image files you have imported.
In LR there are Folder (Those are Physical folders on your hard drives) where your images are stored.
And then there are Collections (Collections are just LISTS (Like you write a list on paper of music CD's you have) of image files).
What do you actually mean when you type Collection?

If you are in a COLLECTION and send an image to PS then Save, and it saves as a TIFF file, that TIFF file is NOT Auto Added to the collection.
You have to be in A FOLDER, IE In the Folder, in the "FOLDERS" section of the left hand panel, for you to see the new TIFF file.
There is no option to Auto Add it to a collection. So you have to do that yourself manually.

I was having this same problem, I got confused over the FOLDER vs the Collection. I now am able to see my stacked photo. THANK YOU

For any image file to show in a collection, other than a Smart Collection, those images have to be placed in that collection.
A Smart Collection is like an Always Shown, Always On, Filter.
If in the Filter bar you select None, for No Filter, do the TIFF files still show? They should and they should be right next to the image the TIFF file was created from. That is with All Photographs selected.
If you go to the "Folders" section and select a Folder on your hard drive that tell LR to only show images that are IN that specific folder and possibly images that are in Subfolders of that selected folder (that is if you have "Show Photos in Subfolders" selected in the drop down options next to the + sign to the right of where it says "Folders"). If the TIFF images are not in that same folder or not in a subfolder under that selected folder then they will not show.
Also for all of this to work you have to have the "Sort:" set to Capture Time. The Sort is in the Tool bar at the bottom of the main/center area of the LR window.

Hey Just Shoot Me,
I went to see if the TIF files are showing when I am in the Library Module, under catalog - all photographs, with filters off. And YES they do now. Which is weird...because earlier today it did not?? Only when I went and searched for them under - all photographs - with the filter on and TIFF selected.

Also went to see now in my collection that I created, the original files and TIFF files are back the way it always was? No problem anymore!
I did try something on my own and restarted my computer now, relaunched the catalog from the actual .LRCAT file as I am running my LR from catalogs from an external HD. Seems to have done the trick, maybe it was just a glitch?
Just checked again and I think there really is some kinda glitch. Just like I said, they were all there and back to normal, but when I click on a different collection, that collection is not showing the TIFF files or the "stacking" 1of2 thing. When I click back on the first collection same thing, its gone again. When I go to Library Module and open the FOLDER tab they are there, click back to develop module and on the collection, AGAIN back to normal?

Just wanted to share an example of another collection not showing the "stacking with original" feature 1of 2

How does it show in my one collection and not the other?
Also thinking the only reason the TIFF files are showing here in this collection is that I went to Library Module, searched for TIFF files and added them back into this collection, re-arranged them by dragging and dropping them next to its original partner.
So truthfully, I do not understand how this is possible?

Le t me try to phrase this differently.
When you have a Collection select the only image that are displayed are those that "YOU" Placed In That Collection. If you edit one of the images in a collection in PS and save it that file Will NOT be in that collection because "YOU" have not placed it in that collection.

Hey Just Shoot Me,
I completely understood you the first time. I get what you said but that was never the case for me previously. The PS edit Tiff file DID go straight into my collection without me putting it there because the original raw file was in the collection. Don't ask me why but it did.

More than likely you had a Filter Set and that is why they didn't show. There is No other reason.

I have honestly come to the conclusion that there is a glitch in the filter. because it does its own thing without me choosing a filter.

Then try resetting the LR Preferences.
