I love the upgrades regarding the masking tools in the new version of Lightroom however when I'm working on a project (in this case a wedding with over 200 retouched images) I have to manually update each mask when I re-open the project. The message reads: "Subject 1 could not be loaded. Update to recompute the AI selection." This happens on each picture, on each mask. This seems to me like something that should automatically be loaded when the project opens. Please let me know if there's something I need to do to automate this.
Thanks!

Do you sync or auto sync settings? If so, that is the problem. You can sync A.I masks, but they do need to be updated on each picture and unfortunately right now that can only be done one by one.

I don't even have to exit lightroom before having to go back, reopen my photo and update the mask. Very frustrating!!!

Open your catalog folder and check that 'Catalogname.lrcat-data' has read & write permissions. Some people found that the permissions were somehow reset to 'Read only'. Because this is where Lightroom stores the mask data, it cannot save those data if the file is read only.

Also make sure you don't have any software deleting the lrcat-data folder/file next to the catalog.

I just realized this happened to me too! I reopend the project (a wedding also with over 500 images I've edited so far) and I have to manually "update" each mask on every photos. I'm about to lose my mind!
Did you ever figure out a way an easier way to manage this?!

This is happening to me as well.
It's wildly frustrating.
When I close the project and reopen it, I have to manually go back and click Update EVERY SINGLE MASK. This issue has been reoccurring for over a year and I can't believe it's not being addressed.
