Lightroom Classic has suddenly been running unbearably slow. Takes 15 seconds to load photos and edits, color will not show up properly or take five seconds to show up, and may load differently when I switch back and forth. (I wonder if the color balance loads first and then the calibration or masks changing color take a moment to show up?) And for awhile yesterday, I would click on an image in Gallery Mode and it would select an image ten images away. At that point I updated my OS, deleted LRC and reinstalled, but issues continued.
I've been using Lightroom since its first version was in Beta (c. 2009?) and have only once had unexplained issue about three years ago, where support found was due to some missing or incorrect code on the back end... I've never posted here before, let me know what info is helpful to share. Thanks in advance.

This often indicates corrupted preferences. Try resetting LR's preferences:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/articles-page/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/
LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

soils its preferences file
Can confirm, my issues are as messy as you make them sound!
Tried resetting preferences, broke my heart as I just tried to "optimize" all those preferences in troubleshooting yesterday.
Thanks for your help, learning more day by day, always happy to have more tools like this in my pocket.

What model and year Mac? How much graphics memory? (Do Apple icon > About This Mac. LR's Help > System Info command has a bug and omits the omit of graphics memory for many Macs.)

I don't remember anyone reporting a bug regarding omissions in LrC Sys Info. Can you point me to the link?

Not sure if this helps, but this is the graphics card info I get from LR vs. my MacBook itself. (If not, we'll wait for @John R Ellis to help further.)

Unfortunately, your Mac's graphics processor doesn't meet the minimum requirements:

Try setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off. Does that improve things?

Thanks, I had tried that and then reset preferences as the responder above suggested. I have now turned it off but receive the popup: "Your GPU is turned off. Enabling it will improve your performance."
Should I assume that it, in fact, will not improve my performance and leave it off?

"Should I assume that it, in fact, will not improve my performance and leave it off?"
With your graphics processor, it may or may not improve performance -- it's older and has less than the minimum required graphics memory. But turning it off could avoid the other symptoms with changing colors.

Hmm, I recalled seeing a bug report, but I couldn't find it either, so I just posted a new one:

I'm having exactly the same problems!!! LRC is running ridiculously slow to the point of being unusable. I am on the phone with my friend who is having the same problem and we are trying to figure out how to fix it to no avail. It started about 3 weeks ago. Can someone from Adobe actually weigh in to assist? We have cleaned up our computers, optimized everything, etc, etc.

I'm so sorry to hear it, it has been a struggle. I'm three weeks behind on a client's wedding cuz I just cannot trudge through 700 edits at the current pace. Mine started a few weeks ago as well, around the same time as I updated LR and my Mac OS.
My husband had luck with digging into the Activity Monitor and force quitting "corespeechd" and turning off the Siri settings including the microphone. Keep the Activity Monitor open as it will restart itself and eat up the memory if you aren't actively keeping an eye on it.
FWIW I have never had Siri activiated on this Macbook the 3+ years that I've had it so this advice isn't only for folks who use Siri. Please let me know how it goes, if you figure anything out. Good luck!
