Tethering EOS R5 reports camera as not connected

I have been successfully Tethering my Canon EOS R5 to Lightroom Classic using a TetherTools cable... until now. It has worked great, but with the most recent release of LR (12.1) it no longer works. Tethering works fine with Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility. Anyone else experiencing the same? Now I have to tether with the Canon software, and then synchronize the folder in Lightroom Classic, and that's not a convenient workflow. Thanks!

Until two days ago, soon after a recent CC update to Lightroom, I have been successfully Tethering my Canon EOS R5 to Lightroom Classic using a TetherTools cable. Canon EOS R5 with latest firmware

Tether Tools tethering cable

Steps taken:

1. Start Lightroom Classic

2. Connect EOS R5 to PC USB using Tether Tools Cable

3. Switch camera ON

4. In Lightroom, File > Tethered Capture > Start Tethered Capture

5. Create destination folder

6. Camera is recognised, but "busy" and the camer LCD shows only a monitor and battery icon

7. Camera is not functional until disconneted from PC

8. Start Canon Digital Photo Professional (latest version)

9. Choose Remote Shooting (starts EOS Utility)

10. Select destination folder

11. Camera functions properly

12. In Lightroom, synchronise folder to view and edit captured photos.

I have had this exact same issue except I can only capture with EOS Utilities. I have Capture One, Smart Shooter 4, and DSLRemote, all of which worked previously. What changed? I accidentally upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11. So, my question: did you update Windows between when it worked and now? (Could be a Windows update, or maybe like me a whole version upgrade)? Like you, my R5 shows up in, for example, Capture One to adjust aperture, ISO et al. I can even do a Live View. I can sometimes take one frame, but then nothing after that. For C1, I found a log entry that said "PTP Error".  There's something about both of our systems where something is missing since Rikk has no issues. I am working on a 4-year old Dell XPS 15 2-in-1, but until now haven't had any issues.

Due to an unrelated issue, I had to reinstall the Win 11 OS on my Dell XPS 8930. A major PITA! Tha included reinstalling all of the programs that I use, including Lightroom Classic (CC - latest version). I've only tries tethering once so far, but it worked fine. I get my second attempt later today.

OK!  Whew found solution. So, after updating firmware etc. (which didn't help) I found a thread where people were enabling the nikon plugin.  I kno!!!  I have a canon camera, but I looked anyway and the Nikon plugin WAS ENABLED.  I disabled the nikon plugin and now tether capture works.  I hope this helps others

Hi Adam, I have the same problem. What Nikon plugin do you refering too? Can you explain how and where to turn it off? Thank you

Sure thing.  Go to >File>plug in manager>nikon tether plugin.   Disable it.  Good luck!

I no longer have the problem, but this intrigued me so I checked it out. It was on, so I turned it off. But now I wonder why there is a Nikon Plugin, and one is not required for Canon. I am successfully tethering my EOS R5 using a Tether Tools cable.
