Thumbnails do not load during import

Good morning all,

Recently upgraded my monitor (3440x1440) and have also upgraded my GPU (4070 Super) but since doing so, Lightroom runs at an incredibly slow speed. It doesn't load thumbnails during import, and even when imported, there's no thumbnails.

Elbeardo_1-1731823427553.pngElbeardo_2-1731823440353.png

I've done everything I can think of, including rolling back to 12.5 and doing an entirely fresh install of 14.0.1, but still, there's not difference.
It almost paints the window in brushstrokes when loading as well.

Thank you so much for your help

Try this: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-change-my-monitor-profile-to-check-whether-its-corrupted/

Make sure you have the most current driver for your GPU, and make sure it is a Studio driver and not a game driver.

If that doesn't help, please be specific: what actions in LrC are slow?

Thank you for your help.

I went through the setitngs and adjusted accordingly, but so far nothing has changed. I currently have the most up to date game drivers for my GPU, and have never encountered an issue with them before. Tbh I didn't even know there was studio drivers.

Regarding what is slow in LrC, it's everything outside of actually using develop. I can't import at a reasonable speed, there are no thumbnails at all when I'm in my library, import or in the filmstrip in develop, so I can't actually see what I'm editing, until I open it in Develop.

This is what I see when I am importing photos, after the program has been left for 10 minutes to process.

And these are my performance settings.

You need to have the Studio driver installed.

Do you mean you followed the directions I gave at the link?

The installed driver 566.14 is both a Studio driver and a Game Ready driver:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/235906/

Studio drivers are Game Ready drivers that receive extra testing with a suite of creative apps.

I'd suggest opening Windows Task Manager to see which resource contraint could be causing the problem.

Try setting Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Custom and select Enable HDR In Library. That has helped a number of people. To help others, let us know whether it works.

Is your Navigator panel, and your Histogram panel gray as well? And I notice that the gray thumbnails do not have three dots upper right (metadata reading/preview creation)

Have you considered that you may have a corrupt preferences file? Have you considered resetting the preference file. Remember that a corrupt LrC preference file will not get replaced during an uninstall/reinstall, or an update or a upgrade.

Thanks for your answer!

Everything is greyed out during import and library management, but the develop page is working as intended.

I've reset the preferences file, both on start up and while running as well, still no fix.

Lightroom (Cloud) still works, slow to move between files, but when it's in the file it's smooth, but I still greatly prefer LrC, especially for its catalogue and import

1. And what happens when you set Preferences > Performance > Enable HDR In Library? Try it even if you're not doing HDR editing.

2. If that doesn't help, work through these steps to delete LR's previews and rebuild them:

Okay so,
Activating HDR does nothing. Nor does deactivating.

I purged /everything/ to do with lightroom catalogues, but I am still running into the same issue.

Lightroom currently only uses 1/3 of my available ram and less than 10% of my cpu when running. Everything running the latest version possible.

Previews still blank, no ability to change metadata and I can't actually see what photo I have selected until I have opened it in the develop tab.

If I had hair I'd be pullin it out to be honest.

What about disk? Are you running SYNC? Have you tried disabling plugins?

Huh, that's really weird. Lightroom is using 0% of any disk.
I'm not running Sync and I have no plug ins installed currently.

My questions on resources on not just in relation to LrC. It could be a symptom on a resource problem caused by other programs. In other words, look for resource hogs in other programs that could be impacting LrC.

Your system info shows you have Adobe Stock a Flickr plugins.

Nothing else chewing resources at more than a nibble, Lightroom definitely the only thing using more than 1% and no identifiable memory leaks anywhere.

Disabled plugins as well, which I didn't even know where enabled, and no change there either.

What a real conundrum!
