How can I transfer the photos to my laptop as a raw from my camera?

My preferred way is using a USB or built-in card reader, taking the memory card out of the camera and putting it into that. Then you can use the Catalog to do an Import from this memory card, which will show Copy at the top of the screen.
Failing that, you can probably use a direct USB cable connection to the camera - the originally supplied cable is probably best to use - though sometimes this method is not found as reliable (and fast) as a card reader. In that case the camera appears to the computer as external connected storage from which photos can be copied.
The photos show and a Destination panel at the top right of the import screen allows you to set where the images (and you can un-check any that you do not want) are to be copied within the laptop, as part of their addition to your image library (the Catalog).
There is an important "Organize" choice under the Destination folder selection. "into One Folder"puts everything from the card together, into the chosen place.
You can also organize by Date, and that is what I do. Here you choose a date scheme as well. So you can then always use the same parent Destination folder, and then if (say) you've always chosen a YYYY/MM/DD scheme (next import will by default be remembered the same) , photos taken yesterday will get a 2023 folder automatically made, and inside that an 11 folder, and inside that a 28 folder, and that is where they will be put. Photos on the same card that were taken today, will get a 29 folder made for them inside the same 11 folder.
The remaining option is to reflect the same subfolders arrangement that is in the source storage, into the destination storage.
Once imported you can then edit the images, referring to these Raw copies that have been brought into the laptop.
If your camera has saved both Raw and JPG versions of each photo, and you import both of those together at the same time, you will then either see separate Raw and JPG images inside the catalog, or else you will see a single "Raw+JPG" image which then just acts as a Raw only. This depends on a Lightroom Classic preference setting.

Cartd reader - RAW files are just like any other computer file as far as moving them around goes.
And maybe take some time out to read and learn the basics of using Lr.
