Updating metadata is needlessly slow

I'm using macOS Sonoma and LR 13.0 but I have seen this behavior before.

If the image files are on a remote file system and the file system is mounted on the desktop when LR is launched, then updating the metadata on a batch of images takes almost a second per image.  I have the option "Lightroom Classic" => "Catalog Settings ..." => "Metadata" => "Automatically write changes into XMP" turned off and there are no pre-existing xmp sidecar files.  I see this when updating the GPS coordinates but I believe I have seen this generally as well.

If LR is launched while the remote file system is not mounted, then the update goes quickly.

What is more, there appears to be multiple internal bits to determine if LR can access the image.  One of these bits appears to be set at launch time and is never updated.  Another of these bits appears to control if "Show in Finder" is greyed out or not and appears to be updated when the image is selected in grid mode but not simply when the right click is executed nor when LR receives the "File system mounted" event which it appears to listen to.

It is possible to get LR confused such that the update of the metadata goes quickly but then puts an exclamation point with the error that the sync of the metadata didn't work.  This can be done by starting LR with the external file system mounted and then unmouting it while LR is still active.  There is no external metadata to be synchronized so it seems that LR is rather confused.  Continuing from this state, if the external file system is now mounted and the exclamation point selected, LR allows you to synchronize the data which creates an xmp sidecar even though the option mentioed above is still off.

Any reason you have not updates to LrC v13.0.1 yet?

Note that for MACOS, Adobe had a misbehaving Adobe server, a few days back, that fouled up LrC v13.0.1 updates (perhaps v13.0 as well, I forget) that has been fixed.

The Lightroom Queen forum says that some folks are unable to launch the app after the update.

But I have auto update set so I guess it is just a matter of timing when the updates occur.
