Hi
I have been using LR since version 2 and since upgrading to LR5 I can't find a way to view the jpeg files next to the raw file. in grid view it just shows RAW + JPEG on a single photo but I want to split them so I can see the jpeg type. I changed my preferences to 'treat jpegs as separate files' but what do I do with all the files I already imported and corrected?
Thanks
Mica
Synchronise the folders containing the "CR2+Jpeg" pairs, that'll let you import the Jpegs now that you've changed that setting.

Importing RAW+JPEG (together as one) is for people who only use the JPEG *outside* Lightroom. I mean, the jpeg is *inaccessible* in Lightroom - it's kept with the raw as a courtesy (on disk, i.e. when moving/renaming), and that is all.
Import raw and jpegs separately if you want any kind of access to the jpeg in Lightroom.
There is room for raw+jpeg handling improvement i.m.o. but we may not see it until a more thorough revamping of "related file handling" - mere speculation...

Thanks Rob,
Jpegs are getting better and If I user decides to shoot in Raw+jpeg then lightroom needs to import them as separate files by default and allow stacking if a user wants to. Now that I use Canon 6D the jpegs are far better then my previous cameras and I find that I keep the jpegs more often now and throw the Raw files.
Anyhow, not a big deal just something to live with.
Cheers

Fingers crossed for better RawPlusJpeg handling.

I understand now why LR does not import both the RAW and JPEG files. But I can't figure out how to "synchronise the folders...". Thanks for pointing me in the right direction too Rob Cole.

Hi Chuck,
Context-click the folder (left side of library module, under 'Folders')
(i.e. right-click on Windows; Ctrl-click if Mac)
From the context-menu, choose 'Synchronize Folder...'.

I think your question is really how to import them as separate viewable files. Open the Lightroom preferences window and check the box to treat JPEGs as separate files (in first tab). All future imports will show you both versions of the image.

I have also not been successful in seeing my jpg files separate from the raw files in Lightroom 6 (2015.1.1) I have checked the box "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" without success. This problem is not because I downloaded RAW + jpg, it is when I export my raw to jpg. I can see that the two files are "stacked", one of which is jpg, but when I "unstack" the jpgs don't show up next to the raw photo - I can't see them anywhere. Also, when I use "File Type" in metadata in Library grid view only raw or tiff files shows up - but no jpgs. Please help since all the search results are related to RAW + jpg downloads. Thanks.
