P: Adaptive Portrait presets applied at import should not require updating.

If I apply the Adaptive Portrait preset (e.g. Polished Portrait) at import - I get exclamation mark and message all AI settings need updating on EACH image after import. I think it should not work like that, moreover that I don't know of any way to update AI settings for a batch of multiple images at once. Please fix.

Something in the back of my head makes me inquire about any possible difference in how applying this or other AI Presets, or for that matter AI Masks, may behave in three separate scenarios:

  • Upon Import
  • Upon batch in Library Module (Quick Develop)
  • Upon batch in Develop Module

In each case, is the preset applied to AND annualized on a image by image basis, or is it just applied as the first image (say most selected) is applied.

Out of three scenarious you mentioned, the first (applying at import) will not apply the masks until you run "update masks" manually. The masks will be there, but in this weird "need updating" state! The other two workflows will apply masks properly regardless of the number of images you applied to.
that is the point of my post by the way.

Excuse me "if Lightroom performs as designed" and design is faulty its still a bug! 😃

You are of course entitled to your own definition of "bug". But it's not the one used here in the forum. By posting in the Ideas section, it's more likely to gather attention from other users, in the form of additional votes and comments. If others post similar thoughts, they will get merged together, making it even more likely Adobe will pay attention.

I believe this is as designed, probably because it would make importing images very slow if an AI mask was generated on import. Select the images in the grid, then use the 'Photo > Develop Settings > Update AI Settings' menu.

thank you for pointing out the way to bulk-update images. however I still believe that is a wrong design if it was indeed designed like that. Say user imports 200 images, and  import has completed successfully, so he believes that  all import settings were applied (there was no message saying import complete, but you need to updste AI masks manually). then user goes on to export those 200 images and gets exports with AI masks NOT APPLIED without any warning message from app. This is unacceptable behavior.
