P: Add the possibility to disable full image preset preview

In the latest update, full image preview has been added when hovering presets.
While this is fantastic and really useful most of the time, when handling large files like stitched panoramas, my computer crawls to a stop as my 7700K is maxed out for each preset.
Could it be possible to disable that in the settings for such case ?

It does slow down my process, because every time I hover my mouse over the left preset panel it changes the image or images when batch editing.  And sometimes it leaves the preview showing even though the preset hasn't been selected.  This causes me to have to go back over the left preset menu with my mouse to reset it, and I have to perfectly and slowly move my mouse to the right as not to preview a different preset I've created.  Please take the preset preview away.  I made my presets, I know what they look like, I don't need my hand held when selecting them.

 

I don't want LR thinking, hogging up resources, or doing anything other than what I dictate it to do with an actual click of my mouse.

I have exactly the same experience as you decribing. Preset previews that are stuck on screen. Its not even a feature with a major design/ user interaction flaw like this. This should be adressed ASAP

I am a motorsport photographer and the preview feature has put me to a stop when I have to fast edit images for news sites etc. I think it is a great feature, but I would really like to be able to turn it on and off - depending on where I am in my workflow.

What is the update on this? I know a lot of professional photographers that are been crippled by this issue and are unable to work fast enough because of it. This is peoples livelihoods that are being impacted on so there needs to be a fix implemented asap. I don't see a need for a discussion if its already been pointed out that people need to option.

Just use version 7.2 until it’s ready. I’m not giving Adobe an out, they totally screwed this up, but working professionals should never be early adopters. That goes for hardware and software, cameras and computers. Use what works until the new stuff has been proven.

I disagree. There should be no reason why incremental point software updates like this should carry such a dramatic (and obviously untested) change to the fundamental way in which an application works, especially where performance is concerned. 

Adobe are going to be sorry if they continue to stab giant holes in a product customers have trusted for years. There is no way I will ever consider using Photoshop / Bridge as an alternative. Using Photoshop is like visiting a software Jurassic Park in my opinion. If Lightroom continues to deteriorate like this I will find something outside of the Adobe ecosystem to use.

In a sense, you're completely right. There is absolutely no reason this should've been a point update. This is a bigger change than between versions 6 and 7. This should've been called Lightroom 8.0, no doubt about it.
Semantics aside, version 7.2 is working just fine for me.

Please implement as soon as possible! It's slowing down my workflow drastically, nevermind being annoying! The small image in the Navigation window was just fine.

The new feature is not disengaging once my mouse moves off a preset.  It leaves the main edit window with a FALSE image of a preset NOT selected.  To make things worse some random presets are enabling while trying to use a tool on the opposite side of the Develop module and not disabling.  This is causing the edit window to NOT represent the actual edits to an image.    For example my edit window will show a B/W image even though I am hovering over the image and exporting.  The thumbnail will be color and the exported image will be color but the view in the edit image will be STUCK to B/W.  I've also experienced the image suddenly change to a preset image when swapping to full screen "F" and back.  I would really love to have an option to turn this feature OFF.  Thank You

I don't know whether there's been an indication of whether default off or default on. I say "off" - because hovering over causes lag problems for large files. As someone said, workflow shouldnt be disrupted because of a random mouseover. I realize this could make  some people miss the rich goodiness. How about a pop-up reminder (that can be turned off) telling people of the option?  Also, I can see that it's hard to open a new subset without hovering over presets. What if you allowed the option to "only preview on click"? That would highlight the setting and preview, then click-two (if applied) would select.

Lightroom Classic CC 7.4, released today, now allows you disable this feature in the Preferences.  Download it and flip the switch!

Rikk, I stopped looking at the releases when they wanted to overwrite 7.2. As mentioned in the Adobe forums I had some performance issues with the presets hovering even when the preview was switched off. Was this addressed at all post RC5?

I am wondering, why you put it now in preferences and not as a simple toggle in the GUI, because most people prefered it to have it in GUI after your little survey here...

I would argue that it's a bug on some machines rather than an behavior change.  If the intent was to update the loupe image ONLY WHILE hovering over an image that's not what is happening for many people.  Personally I'm experiencing changes to the main image WITHOUT even hovering over the left panel.  The image will suddenly change to B&W or some bizarre flat image while using tools on the right side.  I have to either click on another image and back OR toggle into fullscreen "F" and back to revert back for an unexpected update to the main image to go away!  

I've been waiting desperately for a fix to the point of NOT bothering to process images until a solution is in place.  That's not fair when I'm paying monthly for a service that I can't reasonably use.  As for the reverting to a previous version?  That was not an option on my laptop that is still running Windows 7 and will NOT support windows 10 despite all of Microsoft's promises as well.  (Runs for about 1 month then always gets the blue screen every time I've installed Windows 10).  I Purchased new laptops on 3 separate occasions (all Windows 10) just to find they could not run Adobe LR without painful lags and finally resold or returned them.  Each machine I tried had an i5 or i7 processor and at least 16Gb RAM.  The performance was worse than on my current Toshiba Satellite P855 windows 7 i5 with 8Gb.  The performance to run LR just sucks on windows 10 vs 7.  And the three new laptops were $1,200 to $1,500 brand new Dell and Lenovo machines.  Why would performance be worse on several new Windows 10 machines than on an old Windows 7 machine anyway? 

Windows 7 meets the system requirements per the Adobe website (may 24th 2018 specs.) however Creative Cloud will not revert back a version unless Windows 10 is being used?  Why is that?

Adobe should be investing more time into efficiency to run on middle ware machines than bells and whistles that decrease performance and efficiency. 

I am really so tempted to scrap all future use of Adobe products and move onto something more reliable. 

Adobe LR should NOT take so many resources that a new laptop with a new processor and 16Gb of ram can not run efficiently. 

If cutting edge machines are what Adobe is interested in targeting, maybe they should create a LR Premium line and stop KILLING an crippling a huge portion of their customer base!

And it doesn't work?! I disabled the option and hover is still active, so i thought a restart of LR would fix and nope!

Oh wait, i think i see now... they only disabled hover-previews for Presets and not Profiles? Are you kidding me?
