P: Lightroom app for tablets (iPad, iOS, Android)

LEGEND ,
Apr 13, 2011 Apr 13, 2011

Mini Lightroom iPad APP!
I would love to be able to export a database of images (iPad resolution thumbs) and while I'm on a plane edit keywords, change develop settings, and create slideshows, ect.
When I return I could sync with my main catalogue.
Tethered shooting maybe?
I would pay big money for this!
cheers,
Rick McCawley

Well Rikk, Lightroom Mobile sounds like a good start...if you own an iPad.
Personally, what I'm looking for is a way to triage my photos (keyword, flag, and rate) on my Windows Tablet in the field - any real editing will be done on my color-corrected monitors at home. So, sadly at this point, LR Mobile isn't doing anything for me.
Maybe you could just add a touch-optimized Library Module to the current Lightroom program? Either a toggle to turn on the touch-mode, or just a new "Touch Module" that can be selected?

When is the Android version coming out?

When it's ready. Adobe has only said that they're working on it.

There are more Android devices than iOS devices, but Android has more OS variations than a single-manufacturer-controlling-everything situation for iOS, so iOS is probably a bit easier.

You don't have to support every single version of Android in creation, nor do you have to support versions that wireless providers have hacked into unrecognizability.

You only need build it for a particular Android OS or a very narrow range of OS's.

Because, you want to support devices it's likely to be used on, not every device that currently exists in the wild.

If I'm going to do serious manipulation on a tablet, I'm going to need a stylus. (This already makes the ipad uninteresting.)

So let's see... Here's the Samsung Galaxy Note. It's large enough and incorporates a stylus. If you support Kit Kat, you'll pick up the latest Note tablets. Enlarge to include Jelly Bean, and you'll support the previous Note models.

Again, it's not about Lightroom running on everything. It's about Lightroom running on a tablet that's appropriate for Lightroom. (Else, what is the point?) So pick an appropriate Android tablet, and port to that.

There. Done. Let me know when it's ready.

There used to be a saying in the early days of PCs that "'what you see is what you get' means that 'what you get is limited by what you can see'". Early word processors were limited by the display characteristics of the hardware they ran on.

The problem with Lightroom running on cheap tablets is that it would necessarily be a Lightroom that didn't have the features necessary for professionals, just as "adobe photoshop" for Android and Carousel are toys, not meant for serious work.

I expect to have to invest in heavy duty PC hardware to run Lightroom on a PC. (And have done so.) I would expect the same to run a *real* Lightroom port on Android.

So narrow your focus, pick one or a few appropriate high end platforms, and do the port already. An Android app like Lightroom is an obvious hole that needs filling. The longer Adobe dithers, the more likely that someone else will fill it.

Re: The official answer -- Adobe Carousel

I previewed it. Adobe Carousel is a toy. Ok for organizing and doing minor corrections to photos taken with the ipad, but not a tool for the serious photographer, doing serious post-processing from a professional camera. If you're going to stick with that, Adobe, a competitor will someday pass you by.
