After LR upgrade to 14.4, I get a popup stating:
You have enabled "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing" in the preferences.
When using the latest AI features, it is highly recommended that you always work on Originals.
For best results disable this preference !!!
Suggestion to Adobe:
Make LR smart enough to use the Originals when they are needed/beneficial (like - if I am right - when zooming in to adjust sharpening ?) but keep using Smart Previews for speedups when the Originals are not needed/beneficial.
Otherwise, we always need to toggle this under Preferences->Performance 😞
