I have also connected my Canon 6d mk2 directly through the dongle and imported to lightroom, now i bought a used Sony a6000 and will NOT connect to my ipad, not even the pc.
Is Apple's Photos app able to see the contents of your A6000 camera? If this works with Apple's own native apps, it should also work for Lightroom. Otherwise, this is a limitation of your iPad. The best workaround here is to use an Apple SD Card reader adapter.
