Computer slowing after closing Lr

New Here ,
Nov 11, 2024 Nov 11, 2024

Hello,

After using Lightroom (Lr), I just close it and then Windows slows down. The Windows task manager takes huge amount of time to open and then I see Lightroom processus still working. I have to restart the computer at each time. I tried to uninstall, restart, re-install the app, and same issue again and again.

The issue doesn't occur with LrC and Ps.

What to do ?

Thanks

Stéphane

Hey, @stphane_7141. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Besides the slow-down, monitor the activity & performance in the Task manager while Lightroom is in use. Before closing Lightroom, what are the few steps, or edit you do?

As primary steps, try this:

  • Unplug additional displays & use only one by default.
  • Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance > Graphics Performance > Set it to Auto, High performance & Power saving to check how it goes with each.
  • Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor > Set it off if it is on Custom or Auto. If this shows you any differences, please check this article to troubleshoot further: https://adobe.ly/3uYiJo4

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hello @Sameer K

It happens even if I don't process any action in Lr. I just open and close the app and then the app shuts down apparently but in the task manager it is still working actively (I have to open the task manager before closing the app, else it won't open because the app seems to make Windows Explorer slow down).

I will test the three bullet points you wrote. As for now, Lr installation is blocked at 27%...

I keep you up

Stéphane

Hello again @Sameer K

After several tests, it appears that the issue occurs when I use two screens a the same time. When using just one (windows+P : 1 screen), then the app closes normally.

Is it a well known issue ?

Best regards

Stéphane

Hello @Sameer K

I re-open this subject becaus the bug reappears, with 1 or 2 screens ON. And whatever the settings of the graphics performance/acceleration.

I'm now sure the issue occurs when I open a photo from inside the app. If I just open and close the app, everything is OK (but it's useless). It seems that something happens when I open a photo. Then, after shutting down Lr, I do have to kill the app from the task manager as it keeps running among the background apps (using 166Mo of memory). Also, the adobe crash processor task starts in the background (using 3,4Mo of memory).

What is the solution ?

Best regards,

Stéphane
