I bought the ipad version thinking it would transfer over to desktop. If i cancel my subscription for the ipad version and just keep lighroom for the desktop, will it continue to work on my ipad or do I have to have both subscriptions in order for it to work cross platform?

If you purchased your plan from Adobe- Don't 'cancel' it- Change it...

CHANGE YOUR ADOBE PLAN

You need the LIGHTROOM PLAN 1TB - One plan for all devices.  Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android.

Otherwise contact Adobe Support to assist a change of Plan.

If you have two plans already, a Lightroom desktop computer plan and the Lightroom iPad Premium plan, then you can indeed cancel that premium plan because Lightroom mobile is part of both Lightroom desktop plans (the Lightroom Plan and the Photography Plan). Do this only if both plans are with the same AdobeID. If not, contact Adobe for help.
