Drag and Drop to reorganize photos

I've just downloaded LR Classic (7.1.2) as I read you can drag and drop photos to reorder within a folder.  It is not working for me.  I have checked "run as administrator" and it is NOT checked.  I have my photos stored locally on my PC hard drive, and go to that folder but am not able to drag and drop to reorder.  In the sort options at the bottom of the page there is no custom sort.  Do I need to put photos in some sort of Lightroom folder itself? Also cannot create "new album" - those options are all greyed out and not available.  But most concerned about reordering - that's why I am trying this program.  Any help is appreciated 🙂

If you have a version number of 7.1.2, then you are not using Lightroom Classic, it's just plain Lightroom

I'll move your post to the correct community.

Next question: if you are indeed using Lightroom Desktop (7.1.2), which mode are you using? Cloud or Local?

If using Local, then yes the create albums options are greyed out. Albums only exist in the cloud, so you'd have to be using the Cloud mode in order to create new albums. And yes, there is no Custom Order in Local Mode, so you cannot reorder the images within a single folder by dragging and dropping into a custom order, you can only use the standard sort orders available to you. But reorganising files by dragging and dropping to different folders is possible, though I'm not sure if that's what you were looking for.

Cloud mode supports dragging and dropping between albums, not folders. Folders in the cloud are containers for albums only, they cannot contain image files. Obviously it does support creating new albums, and within an album there is a custom order option.
