Exporting error when using AI object masks

Explorer ,
Nov 16, 2025 Nov 16, 2025

In the latest update (Lightroom 9.0), when exporting any image (old or new) that uses an "object" mask , it shows the following error: "Some images were exported using obsolete AI adjustments".

Captura de pantalla 2025-11-16 a las 5.08.51 p. m..png

But the thing is that according to the AI section/tool, nothing needs to be updated.

Captura de pantalla 2025-11-16 a las 5.11.45 p. m..png

If I open the same image in my phone, it shows a message that AI needs to be updated, but I do it, the photos nevers syncs to the cloud. The loading icon stays there permanently never synching the adjustments.

If I delete the object mask, the error dissappears and the synching works fine too. So It is clearly an error with AI masks.

This happens macOS, Windows and the iOS version.

If I do all that, yes, it works and exports fine, without error.

Before you say it, I thought that perhaps it might have to do with the camera raw file, but in the video I sent you, photos are taken with different cameras (sony, fuji), and the error it's still there.

I think the issue is with cloud based AI masking. As I mentioned in my first post, I open the image in my phone, it prompts me to update the AI adjustments, but if I do, the image doesn't syncs to the cloud.

Edited: If I go back to

I have not seen this.
Can you supply the original file + settings for us to review?

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

The original file is bigger than the 47 MB limit per file this forum allows.

How should I send it to you?

However, this happens with any photo that uses AI objetc masking. Even with photos from before this update. They used to work and export fine and now the error message comes up everytime I tried to export them.

I got the file - thanks.  I have confirmed it has an object mask present.

I tested Export in Small JPG, Large JPG, DNG, and TIFF. It exports with no errors, and there are no updates for the AI Settings required.  I am not able to reproduce what you are seeing.

Based on this, I am going to recommend standard troubleshooting starting with a Preference File Reset.

This procedure works for both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom Desktop.

If you are using Lightroom Desktop, it can change your local storage location. Please review this setting after resetting preferences.

Reset Procedure:

1. Close Lightroom.

2. Hold down [Alt/Opt]+[Shift] while restarting Lightroom.

3. Overwrite the Preferences when prompted by the dialog.

4. Close Lightroom.

5. Restart LiThomas Asheghtroom.

Hello.

Thank you. I did all the steps but still having the same issue.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom but it didn't work either.

Any other advise would be highly appreciated.

I also sent you a video of the process via DM. Let me know your thoughts.

As a test, if you take the Original + Settings you sent to me and open it in Local Mode:

  1.  Does it look correct?
  2.  Will it export from Local?
  3.  If the answer to both of those is Yes, then Export as DNG
  4.  Import the DNG file into your Cloud catalog and check if it can be exported.

Edited: If I go back to version Lightroom 8.5.1, the problem dissapears. So It is an issue with version 9.0.

And does the newly imported DNG show the same problem on your phone?

No, it doesn't.

Here you can see both files and how the original raw file prompts to update AI settings.
