I've now been migrating to (from Classic), and working with Lightroom CC fully for the last couple of weeks now, and have managed to get things working reasonably well, working around some of the missing functions, but generally fairly happy with it.
One thing that I'm almost clear on is the manner of importing new images, but still maybe hunting for better solutions. I can't see too many discussion on this, so wonder if anyone has even considered it much.
It does seem clear that you need to do any culling before importing into LR CC (what's the point in uploading rejected images?), perhaps keywording and rating might help speed things up too.
My plan is to import into a temporary holding folder and working folder structure, when importing from a media card from the camera, then cull and rate there before importing into Lightroom CC for upload to the cloud. I'm not so concerned about iPhone images, which usually only has mobile data when I'm out shooting with that so won't upload immediately, giving me time to cull any rejects, in any case I tend not to take that many pictures with the phone.
I'm mostly curious what solutions others have for their import workflow, do you just import to Lightroom CC and deal with them there (as I did with Classic), or do you use the OS to do it (I'm on Mac, but I guess Windows works similarly in that respect), or do you use other apps to handle this?
I've installed Bridge, as it's part of the CC bundle anyway, but find it a bit of overkill for that purpose, and not the fastest of browsing tools I've ever tried.
Other apps I could use are Graphic Converter (Mac only), which actually has a pretty good browser, and can tag and rate back to xml files. There are some open source options, such as Digikam and XnView, but again seem a bit of overkill for the task. I'm also considering FastRawViewer, which is, well, fast, and does give some good tools for assessing images, as well, as tagging and rating, and organising rated and rejected images.
Cheers.
