Lightroom crashing when masking

Community Beginner ,
Apr 12, 2025 Apr 12, 2025

Hey, I'm using Lightroom (not classic) and it always lags when I try to mask something. It lags, sometimes it unlags after like a minute, sometimes it crashes.

Your GPU driver is outdated.
Please update the driver directly from AMD: https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-7000-series/amd-r...

I have a similar issue, and a similar spec PC to OP. I updated all drivers yesterday, selecting the studio driver options. Lightroom is still TERRIBLE. I use it on both my laptop and my desktop PC, both have more than enough resource to handle Lightroom; none of my resources are ever maxed out, or near max, when using the software.

I find that if i open Lightroom, it runs well for a short time. As soon as you start doing anything like masking, lens blur, remove/heal etc, it just starts lagging immediately. Even after you have stopped using one of those tools, Lightroom is not really usable again until you exit the software and restart it. If i don't do this, the experience is awful, everything lags, it takes ages to even flick between photos etc. I have no idea what else i can try doing to improve this. Do you have any further advice other than updating drivers?

Nope, it ain't the drivers. I have the latest drivers that AMD released into Adrenalin and there isn't a mention of anything which would solve the issue in the release notes of the 25.3.2 drivers. Additionally, this issue hasn't started appearing just now - it's been like this since I started using Lightroom, although it's been appearing a lot more frequently lately. I appreciate your efforts, but I've already tried the simple things and they don't work. I disabled my dGPU to see whether that's the problem, but it's not - it was still present while using the iGPU. I underclocked my RAM to 5600 MHz, didn't work. I disabled HAGS, didn't work. I turned off PBO, didn't work. I tried reinstalling, different versions, didn't do a thing. I refuse to believe something is wrong with my PC. If you've got any other ideas, I would be really happy to hear them and thank you for your efforts.

I tried the newest version of Lightroom, but the same problem is still present. Also, the lagging doesn't only happen during masking. Sometimes, even when switching between the photo edit tabs, it hangs for like 2 minutes and then either unlags or just straight up crashes. Although I did notice that the issue (probably) happens a bit more when using it in offline mode.

Oh, great. When I update and the "What's new" screen pops up, it hangs and crashes immediately. I would like to remind you that I paid for this software, and it's not cheap. And yet, it doesn't work.
