Location data lost

New Here ,
Aug 05, 2024 Aug 05, 2024

Hi there,

Currently I'm using Lightroom Mobile to edit my pictures on the go. However, when I do some changes and save the file on my the smartphone, some data gets lost. I can't see where the pictures are taken, unless I open the original file. But the edited picture doesn't consist the data. While some don't find this important, I really want to be able to see where I took the picture so I'm able to retrace my steps. Is it possible to overcome this issue?? Let me know. Thank you all

Hey, @Marko39000111yw1s. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. I'll help you get started with this.

In Lightroom, by default, the GPS/location info is not included when you export images. Once you edit the photos, you can choose to keep the location info included in your exports in the Export As > More options > Location info.

I hope this helps. Thanks!

@Sameer K, thank you for your help! After some searching I found the option to export the location data.  Now I can replace the edited pictures on my phone for the orginals ones without losing data. Great help 🙂

Even with this setting is ON, to save GEO location, when one uses the "Save copy to device", GEO location will be lost.

I just tested this on my iPhone, and the location data IS included when using "Save copy to device". Make sure that you have included the location data option in the export settings (and note that each of the various "Save/Export" options have their own settings menus which would have to be individually set).

Jim,

You are correct. Based on your comments I realized that I had not preserved GEO location...only under "Export as". "save copy to device" and "share" have their own settings. Ditto for JPG quality.

thanks
