I'm evaluating a new 24" or 27" monitor for editing in LR.What is best resolution, 4K (3840 x 2160) or QHD (2560 x 1440) ? I have read online pros and cons for both which has left me confused.

It's really up to you, how you work and how well you can see 🙂 Keep in mind that when viewing a document and zooming to 100%, the image will look smaller on a higher resolution monitor (assuming the monitors are the same size, like 27"). The pixels are closer together. So, if you like to pixel peep at 100%, the pixels are smaller on a 4K monitor of equal size.
Some people have trouble with the user interface on higher resolution monitors. LrC and Lr have adjustments in Preferences to scale the UI elements so that may be something you consider using on higher resolution monitors.
Perhaps if you share some of the pros and cons that have confused you, we can offer additional comments to help understand those considerations.

Thanks for your advice Michael. I use Windows 11 PC desktop. My main requirements for the monitor is for photo editing in Lightroom and also general home use (email, word, excel, you tube etc). For a new 27" monitor screen, I am pro 2K at the moment but pricing is now competitive between 2K and 4K monitors. I have viewed and liked the positive benefits of 4K, and would also consider. Sticking points are:
PPI Density on a 27" monitor. As you have mentioned above, pixels are smaller.
From my research online, buttons and text look blurry, low resolution images do not lood as good.
Scaling in Windows ia not the best and you lose the benefit of a large resolution display i.e. the ability to have more screen space.
Also, 4K demands significantly on PC hardware.
Have read that 2K resolution on a 27" monitor is a good balance between visual quality and performance.
Would appreciate your comments
