When I use Selective Edit on my iPhone, only the Radial and Linear tools work. The Brush will not move from the center of the image when I drag with my finger. Help!
For anyone running into this on iOS
Please try to:
1. disable the 3D touch settings in iOS.
2. restart app, alt after restarting device.
3. enable 3D touch settings.
Thanks,
Ignacio

Select your brush size and then tap once on the photo area and use circular motions to paint the red mask. Then click e.g. light etc. and use the sliders to adjust the selected area. The red mask should automatically disappear so that you can see the adjustment being made. Click the checkmark when done.

That's exactly what I have been doing. It doesn't work. When I select the brush size, a red mask appears in the center of the image to show me the size. The mask disappears when I release the brush sizer. Then I tap the center of the area I want to edit and a blue diamond appears there. I use circular motions around the diamond to cover the area I want to edit. NO MASK APPEARS. The sliders unlock but have no effect on any area of the picture.

Check the flow setting for the brush (third circular icon, below size icon). Maybe the flow is set so low you can’t see any changes happening.

Nope. Flow is set to 100%

Bummer. I was hoping that would fix it.
What phone do you have? Did you check to make sure it meets the minimum system requirements? Have you tried uninstalling the app, then re downloading it?

I just uninstalled the app, and then reinstalled it. Same results. Every action in the app works fine including Radial and Linear Selective Editing. But I cannot get the Brush to do anything but place a blue diamond somewhere.
I have an iPhone 7 Plus with 77 GB of free memory, running the latest iOS 12.2. I'm sure it meets the minimum requirements. The only explanation is that I am doing something wrong. I can't think of what.

I have the same phone. It should work. When you first tap the image with the selective brush it puts the blue diamond down as a pin to show there is an active edit. You need to move your finger around the area you want to edit, like you are painting it. You should see a red overlay as you paint. Then you can move the sliders to apply the edit, and the red overlay will go away and you will see the edit.

That's exactly what I'm doing. But when I drag my finger around the blue diamond, it disappears while I'm dragging, the red mask does NOT appear, and when I release, the diamond reappears. I can also use my finger to move the blue diamond around. And I have checked setting to automatically show the red mask.

Double check whether the flow is really set to 100 as it sounds exactly like what happens if it is set to 1. If it is set to 1, the flow icon will look like a checkered ball.

Sadly I am absolutely certain the flow is set to 100%

Have you tried to double tap on the blue diamond and see if that shows the overlay? Or long pressing on it and selecting Auto Show Red Overlay (it’s probably on that anyway)

Thanks, but no joy. Nothing happens when I double tap the blue diamond and then try to draw. No overlay appears and no edit takes place, as before. Long pressing reveals that Auto Show Red Overlay is indeed checked. So frustrated!

If everything is synced to the cloud in your app, you might try deleting
and reinstalling it.

Thanks, but I already tried that per Theresa's suggestion above. I don't understand how I could be the only person experiencing this problem.

Same here, I use an Iphone 7 128GB free, yet I've reinstalled the app and readjusted the 3D settings and it just appears the blue diamond, the flow is at 100% and nothing happens!

Thank you so much for this, my son has been fighting with this issue for a while and this completely fixed it. We found that when we reenable 3D Touch it broke it again so we're just going to leave 3D Touch turned off. Thanks again so much it was very frustrating and confusing.

Hi, I had this exact same problem. I fixed it by going into the Settings on my ipad (assume this will be the same for iPhone) and then select "Apple Pencil" and I turned OFF "only draw with Apple Pencil" and it worked liked it did before the update. Hope that fixes things for you too!

I was trying to brush a mask and it would just drag the image around. Turning off "only draw with Apple Pencil " in settings fixed it for me. 🙂

You’ve posted to a very old thread. It is highly unlikely that the issue described in this thread, though not impossible, is the same issue which you are currently experiencing. Rather than resurrect an old thread that is seemingly similar, you are better posting to a new thread with fresh, complete information including system information, a complete description of the problem and step-by-step instructions for reproduction.
In the unlikely event the issue is the same, we will merge you back into the appropriate location.
Thank you!
