I have 2 concerns. One, I downloaded photos into the wrong album. I deleted that album, now it will not let me download any of the photos because they are already marked as downloaded into lightroom. The second issue is similar. I downloaded a large amount of photos into 1 album and meant to do it into several albums. The originals from the SD card have been deleted. Can they be moved into a different album? Thank you for all suggestions, in advance.

An album is not an image container, but a selection of images. You can compare it to a playlist on a music player. Or a membership list. That means that if you delete an album, you will not delete the images in that album. They will still be in Lightroom. It also means that if you want to place those images in another album, you cannot do that by reimporting them. You'll have to find them in Lightroom and add them to this album from within Lightroom.

Same thing for 'moving' images to another album. As albums are lists, you do not 'move' anything. What you need to do is add them to the other album, and then remove them from the first album. You don't have to remove them however. The same image can be in different albums, just like the same person can be in different membership lists and the same song can be in different playlists.

Can you tell me where the images went when I "deleted the album"?

I tried adding them to another album, they are greyed out showing that they have already been downloaded. Also, when I added them to another album then deleted them from the first one, they deleted from both.

Just to add to Johan's answer @Heidi22907921n4q6

Lightroom Mobile does allow you to 'Move' photos between Albums (well at least on iOS), to help you reorganise.

This can be found under the three dot icon by selecting Organise.

For some reason, this isn't possible in Lightroom Desktop.

@Heidi22907921n4q6

When you delete an Album, photos within that Album will remain in All Photos (as Johan said, an Album is a container.

When you delete a photo, it deletes it from Lightroom totally (you usually get a prompt outlining this) so it will not be in any albums (it will be in the trash for a while if you need them back).

If you are transferring photos between different albums then you need to Remove Photo From Album, not Delete. This means that although the photo is no longer in that Album it will still be All Photos.

I use Lightroom Mobile to organise as it makes transferring photos between Albums easier when using the Move To function.
