If the app does download an XMP file, then it should be with the image. That is for proprietary raw files only. For all other files, there should not be an XMP file because the XMP data are stored in the metadata of the image itself. I'm not sure the downloader does download edits as XMP, however.
There shouldn't be an issue with the XMP files, as they should include all edits made to the raw files. Rather strangely, the Downloader also creates XMP sidecar files for DNG files as well as proprietary raw files.
