LEGEND ,
Apr 10, 2014 Apr 10, 2014

For better editing and comparison I think a "create a virtual copy" option would be very nice.

Snapshots was implemented in the form of the new Versions Feature found in the 2020 release.  Please see  https://theblog.adobe.com/june-photography-releases/ for details!

At this time a Virtual Copy analog remains unplanned.

Hey Adobe Team,

it would be great if we get the "duplicate photo" option in the next update for lr mobile apps.

often i need to edit the same shot in diffrent ways. this option is alrady on the desktop version, why not in the apps and in the browser version?

would be great to hear from you.

best regrads

As I continue do a bit more mobile photography and editing, the more necessary this feature becomes. It's amazing they haven't implemented it already...

Crazy that this is still not a feature of LR mobile. Makes no sense.

Making a duplicate to do multiple edits would be ideal for Lightroom mobile

It is necessary to use Lightroom Classic to create virtual copies that sync back to Lightroom (cloudy) This has been a well supported feature request for at least 6 years.  Why is this simple enhancement suck a difficult thing to implement in Lightroom Cloudy?

Come on adobe people have been asking for this feature for years now. Please give us some indication that you are at least working on this and the feature is actually coming. (Luminosity masks would be nice too but I’ll settle for virtual copies or just duplicates ...for now.

This thread is marked "Planned" at the top. That is your indication. It should not be too long.

I use both Lightroom Classic and Mobile. The versions feature in Mobile doesn’t translate well to Classic because you have to dig through the history to access the previous version. So I would love to have the ability to create virtual copies in Mobile and/or have versions translate better to Classic. Thanks!

So the very top of this post says “implemented”. I am still unable to find the duplicate or create virtual copy feature using Lr Mobile on my iPad Pro. Anyone find a fix for this yet?

Hey Rikk, has this been implemented? If so, where would I find the copy feature?

I don't know about the iPad version of the app specifically...but on my android version of Lightroom Mobile, the feature is named "Versions" instead of "snapshots" or "virtual copies". Mine's on the right-most side of the tools menu.

If it's not showing up on yours, is it possible you haven't updated the app in a while?

It is called Versions in this version of Lightroom.  It is more like Snapshots than Virtual Copies.

@Rikk

This is not the same feature as a “virtual copy”... The different “Versions” don’t get exported!

This is yet another super-super simple feature that doesn’t (for some weird reason only Adobe knows) get added to LR-mobile... Why?

I find myself doing all kinds of backflips and workaround to use LR-mobile. So frustrating for such an expensive subscription...

Agreed!! We need virtual copies to be able to export all at once.

I'm also in agreement with the above, being able to see each version as a "separate" file has its advantages...be it so you don't have to keep overwriting previous versions if you're only making a small change, or if you need to export a bunch of versions quickly. At least for now, however, swapping between versions and exporting doesn't take *that* long.

One of my big issues (that I haven't seen discussed yet) is that only the latest "version" syncs with Lightroom Classic. I could be wrong, but as far as I can tell, you can't access other versions within the program. As a mostly-pc user (who genuinely hates the mobile-inspired Lightroom CC), not being able to have multiple versions on my phone show up on my computer is...annoying.

Please - when are you going to implement virtual copies or even a duplicate image option in the mobile iOS version of LR. This is essential functionality and workarounds are a pain.

I’ve seen this feature requested over and over on different forums for literally years and its still not there.

Doesn’t anyone at Adobe take note of what is posted on these boards?

Thanks

Hi,

I am using LrC and Lr mobile in conjunction. Now I stumbled over a problem wit this combination: the lack of virtual copies (VC) in Lr mobile!

To put it more precisely:

VCs synchronize perfectly from LrC into the cloud. But there is no way back, i.e. you cannot create VCs in the cloud library and have them synchronized back into LrC. Of course there's the concept of „versions“ in Lr mobile, but these don‘t sync back to LrC. I thought that theses might import as snapshots, but that doesn‘t happen. 😞

Here's my workflow:

I want to edit images that have been imported to the iPad, to be synced to my desktop‘s LrC catalog. Some of these need a special crop for using them for blog posts. So on the desktop I create VCs for the "blog crop". Now I wanted to do it with my iPad in Lr mobile, but it doesn't work.

Do you have a solution for this?

The Versions Feature should do what you need.

It allows you to create as many versions of an image as you like. It is on the Edit toolbar on the far right.  Versions sync between Lightroom Ecosystem Clients but not to Lightroom Classic.

Hi, the „Version Feature“ does allow to toggle between to Versions of an edit - but the picture does remain only once in my Collection. Using the VC on LR, the pictures dies get virtually duplicated, show twice and I can edit/crop/etc. each of them independent and still will see each of them at the same time with all edit.
So Version is not similar and does not fulfill all features as the VC.
