P: Support for keyword and metadata editing

Colaborador ,

I'd really, really like to be able to do keywording on my iPad in the LR mobile app. Could save me a lot of Google-time back at the desktop trying to figure just where I was standing for that shot, and what's the name of that building, mountain, river, village etc, etc

I've used Photosmith a lot. But it's been a long time since there was an update. I have been wondering about it's continued development. Mylio is pricey but the 3 device and I think 3k image free version is quite useful.

Yes , but apparently that version doesn't connect with Lightroom

The one thing stopping me recommending Mylio to people I know who like keywording (and don't mind paying) is the complete lack of keyboard shortcuts on the desktop. I raised this with them when they did the first beta and there's been no change. It is an extremely mouse driven interface.

Tagging on the move in Lightroom Mobile would be a great feature !!

The lack of this fundamental feature, within Creative Cloud, is such that it has got to the point where I can hardly be bothered with LR mobile. This is a shame as the app is superb but lacks any true impact on workflow as the ability to properly organise photos away from the desk is just not there (pick flags and stars just don't cut it). Asking why this feature hasn't been incorporated is pretty much pointless but is there any glimmer of hope that metadata/keyword editing is on the roadmap somewhere ? Thanks

Yet another vote for keywords/description/title editing from the iPad. I do all my heavy lifting editing on my desktop/monitor, it'd be nice to be able to chill out in the living room with the rest of my family to do all the light work, adding details before publishing.

Count me for keywording. I doubt I'd taken the trouble to sync with LR mobile if I'd realized I wouldn't be able to do this kind of work away from my desktop. I just assumed it'd be included and this is the one aspect of photo developing that is the easiest to do on the go and is also, along with the other metadata, crucial for navigating any collection of images.

I maintain hope that Adobe will add the functionality. I wonder why they have not ... is key-wording that hard?

FWIW, I still use LRM as my mobile gallery on the iPad and iPhone -- that's far easier than other approaches. Still, it'd be much better with titles / captions. To get those on the iPad, I pull down my Smugmug galleries, which themselves were generated from LR Desktop. In some ways this is better, but involves more steps, and not everything makes it into SM.

This is very important to me! The title/caption work on all my photos takes the most time, much longer than the actual processing. Let's face it - the desktop is the best place to do all the editing, but I'd love to be able to use Lightroom Mobile when I'm out and about (on the underground, etc) to keep going through my photos and adding title, captions, and keywords.

Very important! 🙂

Having the ability to do keywording would make this app a lot more valuable. For me the ability to organize trumps editing on mobile.

I was so disappointed to realise that LR Mobile does not allow metadata updating on my tablet, away from the computer desk (keywords, titles, captions). So I've no use for the whole sync'ing shebang. Absolutely no desire to Develop on an uncalibrated and slow device.

But I'd really really like to be able to catch up with my keywording, etc, while "elder-sitting" away from home.

Please Adobe, listen to your customers!

Why are they not listening to us - Or even responding - keywords on a iPad has to be one the most important things possible - seriously Adobe ??

Agree. The lack of keywords and other metadata management like description is really a drawback. Now LR mobile is more or less only a tool to transfer photos from your phone to the cloud. A first step could be to at least be able to view tags.

Why are Adobe not responding here? Are there any plans?

They rarely announce new features in advance (like most software companies), so I wouldn't hold your breath.

I agree completely. I'm trialling Lightroom 6 CC (upgrade from Lightroom 4) and am astounded that it's not possible to add keywords in the mobile version! An obvious feature that's sadly lacking. There's no benefit to me to edit/develop images on a mobile - I prefer using a bigger screen, but Library module options would be really useful on the mobile version.

ARRGGGGHHHH.  The whole reason I got into the Creative Cloud and mobile app model (versus sticking with just my desktop software) was to be able to keyword on the go.

This thread has now been going actively for over two years. Many people have voiced their opinion about the importance of keywording in a mobile environment.  While not quite universal, a vast majority of the posts have said, in essence, the desktop is the appropriate place to do edits, but the mobile environment is very well suited for such things as keywording.  Many have also asked that Adobe at least respond to whether this is something that is being worked on or why it is not part of the plans.  It seems to me this is a very basic customer service request, responding to a two year running post!  Perhaps some day this will be used as a case study at a business school as to why Adobe has been abandoned as the go to software for professional photographers.  Adobe PLEASE RESPOND.

Yep all true and said as much to some of this a while ago. There is a great book about companies' history called "Good to Great" which highlights that some very good companies do not go on to greatness but in fact fail because of a lack of customer care. Adobe is obviously one of them and I am certainly searching for alternatives because I fear that Adobe will not be around for very much longer.

Apparently Adobe do read the forums, so I've no doubt they've seen this.

I'm wondering either:
1) They don't have plans to make this feature, because it's probably quite hard to make a good UI for it, and don't want to say "it won't happen" and disappoint everyone.
= Actually, we are all more disappointed by your lack of any response in this case.

2) The feature is coming out in an upcoming release, but Adobe employees aren't allowed to discuss future product roadmaps, so they can't make any comments about it.
= In the meantime, users start looking elsewhere to find any other products that work for them. Look at Microsoft and how they've turned from being a stuffy, hard to work with corporate, into a responsive, open and transparent organisation (somewhat). Take the Office365 roadmap for a great example of openness.
We get that software takes longer to make than anyone estimates, but having some future roadmap will help us exercise those last few loyalty muscles to stick with Adobe. And maybe even be excited about what's coming up.
If you're not sharing because you don't want your competitors to know what you're up to, they could just come to this forum and see all the complaints we have about the software and I'd say that is far more valuable.

Meanwhile, get Mylio. Does a much better job than Lr Mobile. It does keywords and other metadata, but lags in hierarchical keyword support.
