Remove reflections error in ACR (tech preview)

I have tried new remove reflections (Technical Preview), with Sony, Nikon and iPhone RAW files. ALL give the error Unable to remove reflections, an unknow error occurred. Then it goes on to say graphic card error, disabled.

Just to add I am using Windows 10 22H2,  DELL Inspiron 5491 2n1, Inbuilt Intel UHD Graphics, Photoshop 26.2

Hi @Frogman38 could you share some screenshots of what you are seeing as well as your workflow so we can try to reproduce this issue?  Once you have turned on Tech Preview and restarted your Ps, walk us through your process along with images, this will be a huge help.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop beta System Info. Launch Photoshop beta, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

After enabling tech previews and restarting, I opened the RAW file from the Nikon D3300 into the camera raw and clicked on the Reflections checkbox. It started to process as expected, and then at about 50%, it flashed up the messages. I cannot get a result with any file I have tried. Happy to supply further info or logs. Or retry on a file you sent me.

Just tried the same workflow on my older Desktop PC with an NVidia GT740 GPU, I got exactly the same result except I did not get the GPU disabled message. That has only the current production version of Photoshop on.

What are we looking at here?  You have a 4 core CPU running at just 2.3Ghz and AFAICS you are using onboard graphics, although it has a reasonable amount of memory for onboard GPU.

Is this a laptop?  If yes, are you sure it doesn't have a second more powerful GPU, which you are not using?

I'm a bit out of touch with this stuff, but it looks like your system is marginal for some of the newer Ai features.  Can you run all of the Neural and Parametric filters OK?

I don't have a Windows laptop so can't show you a decent screenshot, but I found this one on line.\

See if you have NVIDIA Control Panel, and open it.

Go to Manage 3D Settings > Integrated graphics and choose the High Performance Option if it has that option.

The bottom line here IMO is that your system is a bit marginal to run the newer Ai features that require heavy lifting, but @CShubert will obviously know way more than me about it.

It might be what @Trevor.Dennis  has called out, your GPU is internal and may not be up to specs needed. Your driver is over 42 months old...

I am using Windows 10 22H2,  DELL Inspiron 5491 2n1, Inbuilt Intel UHD Graphics, Photoshop 26.2.

Yes it's a 4 year old Laptop with no additional GPU, Just the on-board Intel UHD.

Drivers are the latest available from the Dell Support Page.

It runs all other new features such as neural and parametric filters with no issues. My other PC which is a desktop with Nvidia GPU with not run it either.

Are Adobe engingeering software which will not run on the majority of average users PC's.

I have also seen other reports of this tool not working on other people's Windows PCs with the same errors.

Yes I know this is Tech Preview and by implication 'Beta' but Adobe do ask for feedback.

As Far as I know they haven't changed system requirements to run Photoshop.

That does look confusing as I find it hard to believe that onboard graphics would have that much RAM.  I wonder if this something like a MacBook that has 'Unified' memory that it shares between system and graphics?  I realise that you are using a Windows system.

But you need to forget about that for now, because if you _are_ using a laptop that has both dedicated and onboard graphics, then you just need to follow what I said back up the thread and make sure you are using the dedicated GPU.  Even if you are able to do that, I still think the rest of your system spec is marginal.

Test to see if you can run the Nueral and Parametric filters as asked.

If you are not sure about any of this, tell us exactly what computer you are using including any upgrades, and we'll work it out for you.

I think Photoshop is misidentifying the GPU spec, although it might have 2Gb of DDR5 graphics memory.

Having seen this, I wouldn't even try to run the high end Ai tools like remove reflections on that laptop.

For info and perhaps repeating for the benefit of some. I do not understand why the following happened but here are facts.

My system does not have a secondary GPU and being a 4 year old Dell Laptop meeting as far as I can see the latest published requirements.

The system has 16GB of RAM, of which 7.9GB is allocated as shared for GPU. Photoshop Neural and parametric filters work.

I have run Windows performance monitor in always on top mode and run the remove reflections in Photoshop. Only when performance monitor covers some of the Camera Raw screen, the remove reflection will complete !

The system RAM use shoots up to 15GB !!, but the GPU RAM use stays lowish but runs up to 2.1GB of the 7.9 allocated now and again.

If I try to repeat the remove reflections with performance monitor closed, it will crash as described.

I cannot explain any of this !! But it looks like ACR is being a memory hog, up to 16GB !! when running.

Please read the above carefully. It must give some clues to someone who understands how Photoshop uses memory in a shared memory graphics environment.

BUT my Desktop windows PC throws same errors. It has an Nvidia Grphics card with dedicated memory.

OK final post for the day, as its getting late here in UK. I am dumbfounded....

I can run Remove Reflections OK on this low performance PC, Only if I have other applications open.

For example I closed task manager, but opened and minimised, File Manager, Word and Edge. Then ran Photoshop, opened a RAW file and removed reflections... the results were astounding, using Apple ProRAW file. My reflection was brighter than subject behind the glass and the result on the slider was backwards but that is OK.

Tried again with all applications closed other than Photoshop and it crashed as previously described.

Not the results I expected, but oviously the way memory management affects Photoshop (Have I too much memory available when not running other apps ??)

@Trevor.Dennis That spec you posted is not representative of my Inspiron, if you know Dell PCs you will know that the model number does not indicate the full spec. They issue many options with same model number. Mine is i7, 16GB DDR RAM, No Nvidia GPU, 7.9GB of RAM allocated as shared GPU.

Someone said I didn't have enough disk space, so I doubled my SSD to 1TB and have 547GB free, but it still fails and errors out. 

However, if I open and minimise a few non-Adobe applications and leave them running in the background, they run flawlessly, albeit slowly.

MAkes absolutely no sense.
