EXPORT AS in Photoshop Beta undoes all edits in Lightroom Classic

Community Beginner ,

Issue

  • Photoshop version: Photoshop Beta 27.0
  • OS: Windows 11

Steps to reproduce:

  1. ...In Lightroom Classic make some edits to a photo
  2. ...Press CTRL E to send edited photo to Photoshop
  3. ...In Photoshop do an EXPORT AS. Does not matter if it's JPG or PNG.
  4. ...Once the file has been exported, go back to Lightroom Classic

Expected result: In Lightroom Classic, the photo should still have all of the edits that were made to it before it was sent to Photoshop

Actual result: All of the edits have been undone and photo has been returned to its original state. If you look at HISTORY, you can click on the last edit in order to get your edits back for that photo.

Thank you

Just installed Photoshop Beta 27.0.1 and I see that the issue is still there. Please advise.

Thank you

Hi @V1972  there is an issue with this statement:

Expected result: In Lightroom Classic, the photo should still have all of the edits that were made to it before it was sent to Photoshop”

This is false.  Edits can only be retained via an embedded Smart Object and would not be avaialbe from within Lightroom in any case. In the Edit Original workflow - which this is not described as, the file must be sent to PS - then returned - then edited in LR then sent back a second time as “Original” then, the edits from in between. the trips are avilable.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Im not sure I entirely understand or maybe I did not explain it well but I have been doing this for years with Photoshop Beta as well as Photoshop regular. It's only recently that this issue has come up. This issue does not occur with the regular version of Photoshop and it does not occur with Photoshop Beta versions prior to September 30th.

Let me try to explain this a little better.

I have 2 monitors side by side. On the right monitor is Lightroom Classic. On the left is Photoshop Beta.

This is just a basic way to recreate the issue for me. In Lightroom Classic I select an image in the Develop module. I raise the exposure to +5. I then press CTRL-E to send that edited image to Photoshop Beta.

Once the image is loaded in Photoshop Beta, I can make more changes or do nothing at all, but I then do EXPORT AS and save the image as a JPG. While that save is occurring I can immediately see on the other monitor with Lightroom Classic that my +5 exposure has been set back to its original setting and I see my image revert back to its unedited state. When I look at the HISTORY panel in Lightroom Classic, I can clearly see the +5 exposure setting I made. It's only when I click that exposure +5 in HISTORY that I see the edits Ive made in Lightoom Classic.

I have no need for the image to make a roundtrip back to LRC. I just want to be able to export my image from PS Beta without it affecting that same image in LRC.

I hope this explains it a bit better.
Thank you kindly
