I have lost generative fill - it would be useful if there were some indication that Adobe had disabled it rather than me trying for hours to find it.

Brandon, Photoshop beta definitely still has Generative Fill.  Because the beta version is the pre-release version, it means it is time limited and will expire, so you absolutely need to keep up with the beta updates.  It can be confusing because the main version number will not always change, but I think the m.2368 is the build number, and that is the current version as I type this.

So I think all available versions (not counting the old versions) have Generative Fill.  You need a pixel layer selected, and an active selection, on the Contextual Task Bar turned on (at the bottom of the Window menu).

There have been problems this last week though, which is what you might be experiencing.  Another poster was of the opinion that it would be useful to know when the issue is at the Adobe end, and that's a hard one to argue against.  Especially if you have wasted time trying to fix what can't be fixed.

HEY SORRY! It's not in Photoshop Beta anymore! You have to install the normal photoshop. I just found it in there now.

I got back you need to go to creative cloud and install verison 25.1 back if you updated it 25.3 go to beta apps and click on the 3 dots next to OPEN click "other versions" and install 25.1 or 25.0

@nick_roulstone

Here are some random reasons; let us know if any apply to you.

When some folks say this, it turns out they are missing the Contextual Task Bar, which can be found in the Window menu.

What version of Photoshop Beta do you have? GF was removed from versions older than 25 on August 14:

GF is in the released version of Photoshop. Have you tried that? You can download it from the Creative Cloud app

If you are in an Enterprise or managed environment, you need to talk to your IT.

I suspect you have hit the nail on the head Nick, and that the issue is at Adobe's end.  We have seen lots of posts similar to yours, and it is hard to argue against your point of view.  I have a feeling that interest in Generative Fill and Firefly was intensified during Adobe MAX last week, and the Adobe servers have been swamped.  So it's fingers crossed that normal service will soon be resumed
