Transform Tool Proportional Scaling Not Working by Default in PS 25.2.0 beta

Dear Photoshop Development Team,

I am writing to report a potential bug that I've encountered while testing the beta version of Photoshop 25.2.0. The issue pertains to the Transform tool's behavior with respect to maintaining the aspect ratio of layers when resizing.

**Issue Description:**
In the current beta version (PS 25.2.0), when using the Transform tool (shortcut 'V'), dragging a layer's handle to resize it does not maintain the layer's proportions by default. Instead, the aspect ratio is only preserved when holding down the Shift key while dragging, which is contrary to the default behavior expected from the recent versions of Photoshop where the aspect ratio is maintained unless the Shift key is held.

**Steps to Reproduce:**
1. Open Photoshop 25.2.0beta.
2. Select a layer and activate the Transform tool by pressing 'V' or using `Edit` > `Free Transform`.
3. Click and drag any of the corner handles to resize the layer.

**Expected Result:**
The layer's aspect ratio should be maintained by default when resizing, without the need to hold down the Shift key.

**Actual Result:**
The layer's aspect ratio is not maintained. It is necessary to hold down the Shift key to preserve proportions during resizing.

**Troubleshooting Steps Attempted:**
1. Toggled the "Use Legacy Free Transform" option in Preferences.
2. Restarted Photoshop.
3. Checked for the issue in the previous stable version (PS 25.1.0) where the expected behavior occurs correctly.

**System Information:**
- Photoshop Version: 25.2.0 beta
- Operating System: macOS Ventura 13.6.1 (22G313)
- System Specifications: Macmini M2 Pro 32GB/1TB

I hope this information is helpful for diagnosing and resolving the issue. Please let me know if you require any further details or if there is a workaround available. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Since you are not a Developer and your question is about proportional transform in Photoshop Beta, I have moved your post from Photoshop Developers to Photoshop Beta for you.

We need to see two screenshots, please. You can use the Screenshot app, which is built into macOS:

  • Cmd+T, then take a screenshot of the options bar
We are looking at the link icon between the width and height
If it is on, the W & H work in tandem; if it is off, they work separately

  • Preferences
You said you "toggled" the "Use Legacy Free Transform" option, but did not say how you left it. We need to see this setting.

Use the Insert Image button in a reply window.

Jane

Hi jane-e,

Thanks for your assistance. Everything seems to be back to normal now, just as it should be.

I realized today that there was an update to Photoshop Beta before my initial post (see screenshot). That's the only difference I've noticed.

Best regards,

mark

You're welcome, and I'm glad it's working for you now. The purpose of the public beta is to find and report bug to the developers, so thank you for doing that 😊
