action opens dialog box without modal included

Explorer ,
Jun 11, 2024 Jun 11, 2024

Photoshop actions started acting weird. in grayscale mode, It stops to open a dialog box. This should happen only when there is a modal included at this particular step of the action.  This issue is apparent only with grayscale images. In RGB mode the action works as it should. Why is this happening? It used to be working fine before.

Having an issue does NOT mean there is a bug in the program. If it is working as designed, then there is nothing to fix. You could have this changed to a feature request if that's the case.

But it does not work as designed. And the proof is here https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/actions-actions-panel.html

What can I do to change that? Initially, I had tagged both posts as bugs, but they have been moved to discussions

You can use the Report link at the foot of your post to request a moderator to change the label from Discussion to Bug. I did do this, however, it either wasn't actioned or was deemed as not inappropriate, perhaps because I am not the author or the moderator didn't think this was a bug.

In the other topic, @r-bin created an action that targets the "current channel", while the action from @Monstrik was targeting the "gray channel".

I can reproduce the issue when recording the action in Ps 2024 (25.9.1).

A temporary workaround seems to be to save a user preset and apply it.

You can save user presets anywhere, but here is the default location:
/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop 2024/Presets/Curves/test.acv

It works similarly for "Levels".

Temporary workaround 2
How to record in "current channel" in Photoshop 25.11, just like Photoshop 2022, etc.

Convert the Grayscale image to Multichannel in "Image / Mode / Multichannel" and record the action.
The action recorded will now be "Channel: current channel", so it will work properly even with Grayscale images.

It works similarly for "Levels".
