Export preferences option "export assets to the location of the current document" does not work

New Here ,

I have photoshop 24.

Under 'File - Export preferences' I have selected

'Export assets to the location of the current document'

Still the default directory of the export seems to be "the last location a file was saved to".

So photoshop does not seem to listen to this setting.

But, strangely it DOES take this setting into account when I activate the "use legacy 'export as'".

There are multiple threads on this topic, but I was not able to reply to them.

Hello @Maaike240410909d6a. I just tested things on my end and this preference is working correctly.

I checked the posts you link to and in one of them I can see what is causing the issue, so that I will review that here with you as well.

There are two ways to export files from Photoshop which are related by separate. Importantly, they have separate preference settings. Changing the settings for one does not effect the other. The two methods are Export As and Quick Export. The setting "Export assets to the location of the current document" is a setting for Export As (note the header to the options here says "Export As Location"). There is a similar setting above that in the "Quick Export Location" settings. This setting says "Export files to an assets folder next to the current document". Changing to these options will only effect the specified export method. And they will result in slightly different results. For Export As, the files get deposited right next to the original file. For Quick Export, they get put into a folder called "[file name] assets" next to the original file.

You don't mention which export method you are using, so I wanted to make sure you were changing the setting associated with the workflow you are following.
