Gray screen instead of image showing up in PhotoShop - Program unusable

When I try and open any JPG or PSD files in PhotoShop, I just get a big gray area where the actual image should be. I just exported an entire gallery from CameraRaw (with no issues working on the RAW files) and now I can't open the jpegs (or any other jpegs or PSD files) in PhotoShop. The thumbnails appear in the Layers panel, looking just fine but the entire area where the actual image should be is all gray. (All other panels are in tact.) And before anyone asks, it's not my files - it's most definitely the program.

I tried unchecking GPU compositing in the settings as I saw suggested in another post and it does not help.

**UPDATE: I reverted back to the previous version of PhotoShop and everything works fine. I had only used CameraRaw since the update to 25.4.0. While this is a simple solution, it is EXTREMELY frustrating to constantly have these issues. After not being able to do ANY people masking from April-September and then having to use a workaround to do ANY local adjustments for months, can't we just get a program that works?! These are beyond "bugs"**

@Outtacontext For me it had nothing to do with the actual files - it was all inclusive. Dialing back a version solved the jpeg issue but now People masking isn’t working in ACR or LR. 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is happening with older files too.

I've been having the same problems today. Something definitely in the new update has stopped photoshop working properly.

For now I have managed to find a work around for now on the latest version: Go to File > Settings > Performance and untick "Use Graphics Processor" - However this means a load of features are unavailable. But I can at least access my files to work today.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer I already reverted to the previous version and it made the issue go away completely... too many weddings to edit to be switching back to the new version to try that right now but thanks for much for the input!

@Sameer K  Sorry but I don't have time in my life to be switching back and forth to different versions for Adobe's benefit - I have thousands of photos to edit.

Before I reverted to the previous version I did test it with a newly created document and yes, it was also doing the same thing with that (because, as I stated, it's not my files).

And I don't need help with People Masks anymore... that ship has thankfully sailed... I was venting because I am so tired of having issues that prevent me from doing my job.

@michelegranja go to Photoshop Settings>Technology Preview and check "Disable Native Canvas" relaunch PS. Any better?

Hey, @michelegranja. Thanks for sharing the details. I'll need more specific info about this. If possible, please update to Photoshop v25.4 again & share a video of this behavior with system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

Does this happen with newly created documents? I'll keep the thread in the Bugs section while we wait for your response.

You can try using Adobe Bridge > Camera Raw to open your images to use People Masks as a workaround.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
