P: Auto Blend Layers not focus blending - Photoshop 2014.1

I have 4 registered images of fungi, all images are at the same exposure settings but focused at different levels within the frame. I need to 'blend' together to make one image with a combined DoF.
Ok, so I've imporetd into PSCC as 4 stacked Layers, non of which are Background Layers. I've selected all 4, auto alligned and then used Auto Blend Layers [ABL]. The outcome is that the top 3 layers have totaly black masks applied and the bottom all white. All I basically get as an output is one of the 4 images, no selectivity whatsoever, presumably because of the 3 totally black masks. It also executes the process very quickly.
I assume ABL should be selecting the better focused areas on each image [white on the black masks] and combining all to give me one image with collective DoF. This isn't happening

For the time being you can use Photoshop CC (re-install if necessary).
Mr.Tranberry has indicated the issue is being worked on and a future update should rectify the problem. (edited)

Thank you very much for your answer, only one question: How can I install CC, and not the 2014?

Auto-blend layers command produces unexpected results (did make it with files and lessons of Classroom in a book): first layer receives a full white fusion-mask, second full black fusion-mask.

»So Can I get a refund?«
So have you ever bothered to read the license agreement?
Also: As Photoshop CC runs under the same license a version in which this feature has not been messed up is at your disposal.

I spent several hours last week trying to align some star pictures for a median stack and I couldn't understand why the technique wasn't working. I figured I messed up a step. Later I tried to do a simple macro stack and saw all the black masks. That sent me to Google and here. I see it has been over a month with no fix. Is this what we should expect from CC?

Hi, I've just downloaded the 30 day trial version of PS CC. I'm trying to do focus stacking. I have what I think are 4 images with different focal points that should stack well, and I've followed the process - File>Scripts>Load files into Stack>Select File>Auto-Align>Select All>File>AutoBlend. And I cannot get the images to stack.

I'm keen to buy PS if it can do this, but won't buy it if it's going to be hit or miss. Have tried multiple combinations of several different images, and nothing will stack. Always fails at the last step where the layer shows WHITE for the last image in then sequence, and BLACK for the previous images (it hasn't taken the focus information from those) Any guidance welcome

The October update (2014.2) has fixed focus stacking for me, although I didn't see the fix in the changelog.

Yes, it does work again, but I noticed when I played a self-created action to both align and blend the three shift-focused images that it took quite a bit longer for blending than it did on CS 6. A minor problem, but I did notice a difference. At least I don't have to go back and forth between applications to get to the same end result.

I just hope they honor at least one month of my contract.

I found the bug seven days after the 'upgrade' and have been waiting ever since. It's been over sixty days since I spent nearly two hours with one of the Adobe Tech people, only to find out that there was a bug in the upgrade.

I'm pleased that it now works!

Should we install the previous update as well as the October update (2014.2)?
Or just the latest?
