P: Backspace Key Deletes Layers - Photoshop 22.5 - Windows

LEGEND ,
Aug 17, 2021 Aug 17, 2021

Just wanted this noted at Adobe...

Downloaded 22.5 this morning, and now when I go to manually enter values into a layer (ie Hue/Saturation) I cannot use the backspace key to delete the numerical value. It will first delete the layer mask, then delete the layer entirely.

This is a pain if you're doing lots of product photography, where you're replicating the same values over a large number of photos. I need to carefully highlight the number I want to change, then type in the value, without accidentally hitting the backspace key.

This may be a planned change, a quick way to delete a layer mask or layer, but it is not helpful for all users.

I will do my workaround, but it's slowing down my output.

Appears to be Windows specific issue. I've asked engineering to take a look! We'll update this thread when a fix is available.

Best bet for a workaround is to roll back to the prior update using the steps here: https://adobe.ly/2wH0JjE

Since the latest update, I've been experiencing issues with the backspace key + adjusting opacity of a layer.

What's happening?

Instead of removing the numbers/% in the opacity, uhh, box-thingy -- my layers are being deleted one-by-one.

HERE'S A VIDEO SCREEN CAPTURE OF MY EXPERIENCE

All in all, I hate it. It [removed by moderator] me off. I've uttered "WHAT THE [removed by moderator] !?" about 4 times before I discovered my backspace key was the culprit to my frustrations.

Any idea on how to keep me calm and carry on photo-shopping blissfully?

Thanks in advance,
Jef

Yes that's a known issue in photoshop 22.5 and has been reported over here.

Thanks, Jeff with 2 Fs.

Happy to know I'm not alone.

Hopefully Adobe can get this fixed in the next update.

I am using the search button for brushes and every time I hit backspace, it deletes my layers. I believe this is a bug that needs to be fix

Same. Incredibly frustrating. Has slowed my workflow considerably.

It happens on every text input I've tried in the interface (positions, sizes, etc).

I work a lot with transforms and shapes  and it has completely broken my workflow on Windows.

I came here to cry about this - it's awful, really an impediment to efficiency

Adding to the frustration. It's beyond irritating when messing with Opacity and suddenly, everything disappears.

Also wanna put my hand up that I hate this issue. It affects any text input on the interface and it's unbelievably frustrating.

Allowed Photoshop to update to 22.5.0 this morning and now whenever I change my brush opacity all layers are automatically flattened. I'm using a Microsoft Surface Pro 6 and the on-screen keyboard opens when adjusting oppacity, I don't know if that's what's triggering the issue, but it wasn't happening while using the previous version yesterday. The issue also persists after a full restart of the PC.

Are the layers disappearing/deleting when you hit the backspace key? This is a known issue that engineering is working on.

Best bet is to roll back to 22.4.2 - Instructions here: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

Backspacing the Tolarance selection in the second command line causes all image layers to be deleted

I had to go back to 22.4.3 because the same thing happens when bacspacing numerical input for tolerance or number of pixels.Error PS.jpg

Hello so when I use backspace under the transform tab, it deletes the layer instead of simply "backspacing" like it used to. What should I do? I have a windows computer btw.

What do you mean by transform tab? There is edit >> transform, and Illustrator has a transform window.

I guess it would be better to say the properties tab? So when you click on a layer, usually on the top right, there is a properties tab. Within that under "transform", you can change the W and H as well as the X and Y position. Before I could use the backspace button to erase the digits in the W, H, X, or Y boxes. But now it just deletes layers.
