Since upgrading to CC from CS4 i can no longer put text inside a closed shape, such as the heart. I can put text AROUND the path but not inside.  The cursor does not change and just types as regular text.  Windows 10

Thanks, i have just upgraded to the latest i can - 19.1.3.  and the same problem.  No rounded T in the shape.  If i create a shape with the pen tool or even a freeform heart (a not very good one!) it works fine.  But if i use one of the preset shapes i can only put text around. I have one i created in CS4 which i can edit the text but i want to do a new one with a different shape.  Arghhhh!RackMultipart2018051410058ocy0-2637f9be-02b7-4662-831d-85816829c3e7-1170326635.png

Strange, i've just tested with preset shapes. it works
You should try to copy  apreset shape into the layer of your own (strange lol heart) after delete it keeping the preset one, and try the texte inside.

It seems to work for everyone - just a bug with mine!  If you are able to create it and it works, would you be able to create the same on a transparent background for me and i can see if i can edit it?

when you say a preset shape of my own - do you mean a heart shape from somewhere else?

Thank you.  Ok so the answer was no.  Then i resized it and it then gave me the circle icon and allowed me to do it.  I tried the same with my original but alas didnt work.  Would you be able to do the same but with the other heart shape in the palate (the one i have been wanting to use) - it's a longer shape.  I can then see if that works after resizing.  Totally fine if not - i'm sure you have other things to do!

Hi Steph,

I don't know where you got that heart shape, but the default one works fine.  Check this out:

So I guess this begs the question -- how did you create your heart shape?  I don't think that's the one that ships with the app -- or if so, it's been somehow deformed.

Thanks,
David

Howdy Steph,

Thanks for the info.  That's the missing mojo.  You're right, this shape seems flawed.  I'll log a bug against it.  Sorry for the hassle.

Also, digging through this, it appears that a few of these shapes have this problem.  In these cases, as Arnaud pointed out, these paths haven't been closed.  You can do that yourself if you'd like by zooming in (to the bottom point), activating the Pen tool, mouse over until a small square with a horizontal bar appears to the bottom right of the cursor.  Click once.  You've now picked up the path.  Now, click again.  You've now closed the path.  It might take a couple tries to get it right, but it's not too tough.

But the first heart does work correctly.

Still not fixed in photoshop cc 2019 20.0.5
Someone at adobe needs to check every custom shape that ships with photoshop, because there are many others beside the Heart shape that have this problem.

It doesn’t seem too complicated to do - it would appear that clearly they can’t be bothered. They only want ya money.

Who marked this as solved?

It's clearly not solved since the bug still exists in photoshop 20.0.5

It's actually a question of prioritization -- fix this or add a cool new feature?  Given that these are easily fixed...and this might not be a bug so much as a path being used as a shape it wasn't intended to be....

If there are specific shapes you'd like to see fixed, please give me a list and I'll try to get those addressed.

Thanks,
David

It seems that some of the new shapes that ship with photoshop 2020 exhibit this same issue.
One example is in the Legacy Shapes and More>2019 Shapes>Helmets>Safety Helmet

Shapes that are not closed won't work for putting text inside them.  Shapes that are closed should work fine.

Thanks,
David
