Sorry for the lack of detail! It's Photoshop that locks up, not the whole computer.
I just tested by opening up an AI file in PS, and it's working okay. I do have the problem with PNG and TIFF files, though.
The Color Range tool becomes unresponsive, and is forever present in the foreground, no matter what application I switch focus to. The only way to fix is to force quit PS. I don't get this with PS 2020, just 2021. I thought the update today might fix it, but it didn't. Hence, reporting it here.
I'm a little surprised you're having an issue because we did fix an issue 22.1 (released last night) where the app appeared to hang with the slider when rulers were enabled in 22.0.1.
I recreated the issue again, and then tried to do a screen recording to show you, but I couldn't recreate it while the screen recording was happening. Go figure. 🙂
When the lockup happens, I don't get a spinning color wheel, just a regular cursor. I can move the color range selection window around, but that's all I can do in Photoshop at that point...nothing else other than force quit.
When I try to paste system info here, it won't let me post the reply. Perhaps it's over the 30,000 character limit?
Just had the issue again, but it didn't happen until I tried to hit "cancel" on the color range selection tool. No beach ball, no program crash, just the color range selection tool stuck on the screen and it won't respond to any input from the mouse (except I can move the color range tool window around the screen.) When I force quit, the force quit window does not display "not responding" for Photoshop 2021.
This is the window I just got, where it locked up for me. No spinning beach ball. Photoshop just becomes unresponsive. I can move the Color Range window around, but I can't close it or do anything else in photoshop. The Color Range tool also stays in the forefront of my screen (as the active window) even if I start using a different app, like Chrome or Safari. It stays this way until I force-quit photoshop.
It happens for me only when I'm moving the sliders, not when I'm sampling colors. I believe it only happens on the fuzziness slider, but I'm not positive.
I notice Photoshop crashing when using the color range tool. After the first selection with the eyedropper is made, it freezes and I have to force stop.
Yes, same problem as everyone else. When I try to use the color range sampler tool as I always have (usually to make a mask), Photoshop locks up and I have to force quit on my MAC. (Catalina, latest version, Photoshop, CC latest version).
