P: Crashes when using Magnetic Lasso Tool

After updating Photoshop CC 2018 this morning I began experiencing crashes when attempting to use the Magnetic Lasso Tool. The crash only occurs with that tool. It does not crash when I use the Lasso Tool or the Polygonal Lasso Tool. Changing the cursor to "precise" had no affect. Updating my graphics card had no affect. Bypassing my Wacom tablet had no affect. Not loading third party plugins had no affect. And finally, restoring Photoshop preferences to default had no affect. Any ideas?

Hi Hannah,

I received an earlier notification form Adobe (Mohit Goyal) about the update. One thing to mention, if updates do not appear in the Adobe CC app refreshing the app will usually bring them forward. To do that press Ctrl+Alt+R on Windows or Command+Option+R on the Mac. I found the new Photoshop, a new Lightroom CC, and Camera RAW updates doing that.

Right now I'm testing the new version of Photoshop 19.1.1.

Thanks for your help and update information as this issue was being resolved.

Hi Everyone,

This should be resolved in the update to Photoshop 19.1.1 that is now available. Please open your Creative Cloud, update Photoshop and let us know how it goes!

Thank you!

Hi All,

Please update Photoshop to 19.1.1 version, which includes the fix for "Photoshop CC 2018 crashes while using Pen/Magnetic Lasso Tool".

Also, refer the list of other fixed issues in 19.1.1 release: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html

To update Photoshop CC to 19.1.1, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop CC.

Regards,

Mohit

The crashing of PS CC 2018 version 19.1 when using the Magnetic Lasso tool is a known issue reported by many. Adobe is aware of it and is working on a solution. There are also crashes associated with use of the Pen Tool of which they are aware. I expect an interim release of PS sometime soon. These tools, especially the Pen Tool, completely crashing PS is a significant issue.

I'm using Photoshop CC (up to date software) and its crashing as well when i'm using the magnetic lasso tool!! I tried switching to standard and it worked for a while, but now it's happening no matter what i set my cursor too!!! 😧 Trying to get in touch with someone from adobe support team!

This is a known glitch, according to Adobe, and they're working on it.  Interestingly, I have exactly the same "vintage" of PS installed on my laptop and don't have the problem there. even though both are still set to defaults settings.

Since I don't use that tool much, I only  encounter the problem when cycling thru the Lasso tools with the shortcut key,  I've "fixed" it on my desktop by removing the shortcut key for Magnetic Lasso.  Now it's bypassed when I cycle through....  I'll restore the shortcut if/when the glitch is fixed.

I have PS 19.1 running on Win 7 OS Professional. I had the Mag tool crashes reported in the other posts. After a few restarts that stopped, but the tool does not work as it used to. It selects blocks of similar areas rather than points along a curve. Not magnetic at all. I tried all the suggested cursor setting in preferences with no change in behavior.

What if you toggle cursor with CapsLock key?
