I am experiencing a disk error while attempting to open or save *.SGI;*.RGB;*.RGBA;*.BW image files using the SGIRGB_Win64.zip plugin downloadable from the following link: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/optional-file-format-plugins.html.  This same plugin works correctly in Photoshop CC (v19.1.6) and earlier.  I have reinstalled Photoshop and have reset the preferences file by holding CTRL + ALT + SHIFT at startup, and the issue did not resolve.

Jeff Arola, an Adobe Community Professional, mentioned that he tested all of the optional plugins and none of them were working.  See https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2555251.

Can someone please look into this issue?  Thanks.

Actually, I was able to reproduce this just with the Save As dialog, no need to open any of the files. I'll log a bug and the team will investigate this! Thanks DSB, sorry for the trouble. Regards, Pete

Hi DSB,

Do you have any of those test files you can share with us so that I can test this out on my systems?

Regards,
Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks for taking the time to look into the issue.  Please note that, according to Jeff Arola, all or many of the optional plugins are suffering a similar fate.

If you can pass that along as well, I'd appreciate it.

Regards,
DSB

A quick update,

I was contacted by a representative of the Adobe Photoshop Engineering group, and was provided a new plugin to test on November 19, 2018.  The new plugin resolved the disk error issue that I was seeing during open and save operations.

In summary, Adobe made changes to the plugin architecture or interface which made the older plugins incompatible.

I was informed that there are plans to update the optional plugins web page.  A specific time frame was not given, but it was suggested to be soon.  As of this writing, the published date of the page is October 15, 2018.

Still, It is ridiculous. After a generation of existence, photoshop still can not create a log file that reports which plugin returns an error code. GIFS only load for me when I disable plugins. Which plugin is causing the problem? no was to tell, the error message does not say. I have to manually remove a file at a time from a full plugin folder ?!

You can try a binary search to figure out the offending plug-in more quickly.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info.Launch Photoshop, and select Help > System Info... and copy/paste the textin a reply.
