When using Free Transform, holding down Shift while dragging a corner rightly constrains the proportions of the shape while resizing. However, holding down Shift while dragging a side handle does nothing. It should continue to constrain the proportions as it does in Illustrator.

Thank you for your contribution.
Obviously, the collective many of us with our many protestations of this change (which extend beyond photoshop and our own intuitions) will benefit from your wisdom.

@jcrandell56 'It works and makes better sense'
Great, then why not change it everywhere? We still have to hold shift while transforming text and other objects in PS so the 'whining' is also because of the half-baked, inconsistent implementation. It's pathetic.

Version 20.0.2 is out. Still no addition of a 'use legacy transform' option. And no comments from Adobe why they've introduced an inconsistent workflow in a single application. Absolutely ridiculous!

Who the hell thought this is a good idea? There is no consistency at all. Smart object -> hold shift , Vector graphics -> don't hold shift, Normal graphics -> hold shift. WHAT THE HELL? Make up your minds!

PS 20.0.2 however, when transforming an object while NOT pressing shift, proportions are constrained, but OBJECTS DO NOT SNAP TO GUIDELINES. So I have to press shift to make the object snap to the guidelines, but then proportions are changed.
WAHT TO DO ABOUT THIS? ADOBE PLEASE FIX AND UPDATE!

OMG it doesn't work better and make better sense.. LOL Not if you're a professional that has been making a living with the software for 20 years. ADOBE- you need to cater to your core audience,

Please advise... how the hell can we scale proportionally now. The shift key and all the other permutations do not do a thing! Why did you break this???

Hi Michael,
Sorry I missed your question earlier. The reasoning behind the change was that today when people grab a window corner to resize it they expect it to resize proportionally.

Hannah, there should be an option to revert to legacy transform for us professional users. Does Adobe have any interest in supporting the professionals who use this everyday?

This is a dubious explanation, for when re-sizing any application window in Mac OS or Windows, the proportions are not locked. On Mac, you must hold shift to size proportionally - as was the past photoshop transformation behavior, and the default in all other Adobe apps. What operating system is Adobe using? Does Metal work properly on that one?
This is increasingly looking like a bug, being advertised as a feature.

I was thinking that as well, none of this makes any sense.
What’s strange are the responses from Adobe, it’s totally fine to say we messed up, or we should’ve made all tools consistent, or this is part of a wider plan but it was released earlier etc - something that sounds like the truth at least.
Some people aren’t aware of the change and I’ve found past work from others that’s slightly distorted - when you’ve been doing this for years, you actually drag out quite accurately so I wonder how many other people are clueless about this?

OMG is this really happening? I googled this question and landed here. So after decades of doing things one way, you've changed it to be the exact opposite — but not for the entire suite, just one of the programs. So now I have to be aware of which program I'm in so I can remember if I need to do it one way or the opposite way? Unbelievable. These kind of inane changes happen with every update, and my speed and productivity go down every time. Truly you guys are the worst.

It has been like this with positive vs negative rotation values for many years. I still can't remember which programs do it which way. And I always guess wrong. Absolutely ridiculous.

This is absolutely maddening - can you please stop randomly changing things!
Believe it or not, some us have actual jobs to do, and this constant and seemingly arbitrary messing around with the interface (in Illustrator too) just gets in the way...

This is infuriating. Shift to constrain proportions is muscle memory. Changing this feature for no reason is like rearranging the letters on the keyboard. You need to give us a tickbox to opt out of this pointless change so we can move through the creative suite without having an aneurysm.

It makes better scenes if it was implemented initially & was across the board for all Adobe software like it was before. But it’s inconsistent and a shift from over 30 years of existence. You don’t change a steering wheel to a joy stick on a car and expect people to embrace it!

Just another inconsistency across the CC line. Much like the fact that in EVERY Adobe software Command H hides the application, but not in Illustrator. Dumb. People like me make a living with this software. Don't screw with 25 years in.
