P: Frame "Paste over selection" command fails if PSD contains groups

Adobe Photoshop Version: 20.0.1 20181029.r.41 2018/010/29: 1197484  x64

I have PSD with frame animation and the at least one layers group, I can't use the "Paste frames" command with "Paste over selection" option. 
When I try to run such a command, I get the error "Could not complete the command because of a program error".

After removing the layer group (with "Ungroup layers" command, thus the group's content is not deleted), the "Paste over selection" starts to work fine.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. create new PSD 
  2. create frame animation
  3. create the new frame (there should be 2 frames now)
  4. create new group and create new layer inside this group
  5. in the Timeline panel under the "hamburger" button select "Copy frame"
  6. Again in the Timeline panel under the "hamburger" button select "Paste frame..."
  7. Select "Paste Over Selection" option and press Ok.
  8. The error will be showed.

    This should now be fixed in the Photoshop 20.0.4 release.
    Feel free to update Photoshop and let us know if this is resolved for you.

    To update Photoshop CC to 20.0.4, click "Update" in the Creative Cloud desktop app next to Photoshop CC.

    Thanks for the update. Sorry the bug is still there. It looks like this fix will go into the next Photoshop update. Apologies for giving false hope here.

    Same here. I encountered the issue, found this topic, updated, and still experience the issue.

    I just updated to the Photoshop: 20.0.3 20190130.r.57 2019/01/30: 1204598  x64
    The problem is still here. I can reproduce it with the exactly same steps as described in the first message.

    This will be fixed in an upcoming release to Photoshop.

    This should be fixed in the Photoshop 20.0.3 release.
    Feel free to update Photoshop and let us know if this is resolved for you.

    I can confirm that suggested workaround works fine both from UI or from the JSX code.

    As the title says, Photoshop keeps coming up with the message "Could not complete the command because of a program error" when I attempt to paste frames on top of each other in Timeline and I can't work out how to fix it. It's super frustrating and looking at solutions already around they either don't work or I don't understand them. I don't use Photoshop professionally so I'm not very well-versed with how it works. I'd be really grateful if someone could help me out!

    Thanks. I can reproduce with your steps. I've asked engineering to take a look.

    The workaround is:  Go to Preferences->Performance and enable "Legacy Compositing" and restart Photoshop
