Hi, I'm trying to batch process (auto tone, auto contrast, auto color) some folders with ~16000 individual low-res jpg files in them, but photoshop cc (windows 10) keeps freezing right around 3334 files in. The mouse pointer does this for a few minutes:https://youtu.be/yaEZYr1ViMUduring which time I can't close photoshop or even switch to a different program. Then it just freezes, requiring a shut down via task manager and a re-start. then i have to continue the batch process until it freezes again after another ~3334 files. my machine has 12gb of ram, so i don't think it's that. any ideas?

Which specific version are you using?
And what on your system is creating that blue ring cursor?
The updating cursor does indicate that Photoshop is still busy doing something.

I'm using Photoshop CC 2015.1.1, the most up-to-date version.

The blue ring is from Sony Vegas, but the problem exists whether I have any other programs running or not.

Also, usually it just freezes, but once in awhile it crashes, giving me a generic "photoshop crashed" error message.

So the blue ring means that Sony Vegas is taking control at least part of the time.

And if an application crashes, the OS does have more detailed crash reports available (immediately on MacOS, or in the system event viewer or reliability reports on Windows).

Same issue here. We are trying to processe a KML tile set for Google Earth of +50000 small jpg and png files. It takes very little computing resources, but it always crashes at the 3293th image (tested with numbered dummy images).
This is very frustrating since we have no practical way of breaking down this job into smaller chunks, since the KML project has a very complex and specific file structure that we need to maintain.

What OS are you on? Do you have the latest update installed? (CC 2017.1.1) https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/uptodate.html

I've tried both PS 2015.5 and 2017.1.0 with the same result. I'm running Win10.

Can you double-check with 2017.1.1 which just came out yesterday? It fixes an issue where the scratch disk would get thrashed after opening files.

The other thing to try is disable Use Graphics Processor under Preferences > Performance... to see if that plays into the issue at all.

I found a solution: GIMP!
They have a plug-in now called BIMP that facilitates batch processing. It worked on the first try with over 30000 files. No issue!
Score 1 point for open source software!
