P: Neural Filters - not working - "we've temporarily disable filter because of an error"

Now there is a new problem with the colorize filter since installing the latest version of PS.

Before with the older version the filter would not download and someone came up with

a fix that involved removing the files that had the word colorize in it and then it downloaded fine(thank you)

Now I can get the filter to colorize ok,but when I try to click on image to modifiy the color in certain areas, PS puts up a message saying the filter has been temporarily disabled. Is this happening for others? If so does Adobe not check these things before releasing an update, this is the second update in a row to have problems with the colorize neural filter! I'm betting this is the most used neural filter and yet it has the most issues.

Hi all,

We're sorry for the Neural filter issues after the latest update of Photoshop 22.5. We have acknowledged this issue and logged as a bug. Our engineering team working on the fix. As a workaround, you can rollback Photoshop to 22.4.3 version to resolve this issue for now. We really appreciate your patience with us.

Thanks,

Mohit

This has been an issue for many weeks.  I reported it back in July to the feedback site which has now been closed.  Originally, the error when attempting to add a focal point to the colourised image was "There was an issue running filters" but that error has now been changed in the latest update to "We've temporarily disabled this filter because of an error".  The colourisation actually works but you can't add any focal points which, to be completely honest, kind of makes the entire filter redundant because it almost always needs individual focal point corrections to end up with a half decent job.

Hi, i though i found solution for that issue. Try go to Edit menu then preference > performance > uncheck use Graphics Processor. If it s work well, try to go advanced setting if you still want to work using Graphics Processor and uncheck each box and try until the issue is ok.

This is an unusual response - but it seems to be directly from Adobe about that particular neural filter. Which filter are you trying to use?
One suggestion may be to go to Preferences>Performance, and turn off the use of your GPU - but it's more likely that Adobe found a bug in their code, and are trying to fix it.

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Photoshop forum so that proper help can be offered.

Just to add to this - I have the same issue with the current 22.5, Colorize works with it's default setting, but once I add a focal point, I get an error message.

I've temporarily rolled back Photoshop to version 22.3.1 to get the focal points working again - but this means also setting the filter back to its earlier beta phase, even though I remember it working on later versions at some point. I've renamed the PluginData folder as suggested in other threads and reset the preferences, but to no avail. Nvidia drivers are up to date.

So yup, if anyone has had the same issue and managed to solve it, any tips would be appreciated : )

Hi, for a couple of days I get an error message when trying to use neural filters. It says "we have temporarily switched of this filter because of a mistake". It happens with all neural filters. Anyone else has the same problem? Is there any cure?

Hi there,

We're sorry for the issue with the neural filter. Take a look at the following troubleshooting article and check the list of known issues and workarounds related to neural filters: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/neural-filters-feedback.html  Also, please update Photoshop to 22.5 version.

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks,

Mohit

I tried the workarounds in the trouble shooting article but it did not work. I also tried a full re-installation by deleting PS on my desktop and re-installing PS again, but keep getting the warning sign saying "we have temporarily switched of this filter because of a mistake". I also updated PS to version 22.5 on my laptop and strange thing is that some of the neural filters (skin smoothing, the new feature fill with color) seem to work well there. However also on my laptop I frequently (not always) get the error message when using the smart portrait feature. Both desktop PC and laptop are running on the latest update of windows 10.

Hi, after switching back to PS version 22.4.3 the skin smoothing neural filter works fine again. So my guess is that there is some bug in version 22.5 causing the issues on my desktop. Any ideas?
