P: Perspective Warp upside down [2023]

There seems to be an issue with Photoshop 2023, which the Perspective Warp tool makes the images appear upside down. It is only after approval that the images resume their orginal position. ie Correct way up.

What is going on?

Same issue here with the warp tool (not perspective warp).

If I make the adjustment to the upside-down image, in the place where it would have been right-side-up, once I accept the adjustments, the image goes back right-side-up with the adjustment in the correct location. It is like the "working image" gets flipped until the warp is complete.

Hi @MotoJumpShots, thanks for letting us know. Yes, it seems this is happening for some users using both warp and perspective warp, just as you described. Adobe engineers are aware of the issue and looking into it. Did you try checking “Older GPU mode” under Preferences > Technology Previews to see if that made a difference? Be sure to restart Photoshop after making that change.

Meanwhile, can you please give us your operating system info when you get a chance? Windows 10 or 11, macOS Ventura or macOS Monterey? Also, how much RAM is installed? Do you have a dedicated or integrated GPU? Did this start happening with Photoshop 24.1 Release? These details will help us figure out what type of users are being impacted. You don't have to post your entire System Info, just the basics for now. Thanks for your patience, and please stay tuned to this thread for an announced fix.

Every time I try to warp, the image instantly flips wherever a click and it will squish. It doesn't work like it is suppose to. I have tried reseting the tool, and i've made sure photoshop is up to date.

Are you talking about Transform > Warp? Which Photoshop version? Everything works fine for me, Ps 24.1.0 on Win 11.

Hello, all—
I've used the Warp Tool UMPTEEN times, and never has it behaved as it is now—temporarily reversing the object being warped.
Here's what's going on:
The object I'm applying a warp to temporarly reverses itself, thus rendering the Warp Tool useless, pretty much.
The following screenshot steps are to illustrate this new behavior that began since the latest update recently:

1. Open a JPG file

2. CTRL+T to open dialogue window; right-click; then select WARP

3. The warp grid appears after having selected WARP. I then drag from the bottom left corner of the grid to the bottom left corner of the artboard.

4. This is when it gets weird. You'll notice that the object has reversed itself vertically. This occurs when I touch the warp grid anywhere with the cursor (pen+tablet or mouse). Of course, now it's impossible to now know exaclty what and how much warp I'd like to apply because the object in question is upside down.

5. After applying the warp, the object somehow instantly rights itself to its original position and shows the warp applied. Rather goofy, I say.

I have been through Preferences over and over and cannot find anything that could be associated to or be the cause of this odd behavior. Any ideas? Thanks.

Possibly a bug, possibly a GPU issue. Under Preferences > Performance, do you have "Use Graphics Processor" checked? What happens if you deselect it (and restart Photoshop), is there any change?

I drew myself a similar image on a transparent layer and tried to replicate your experience, but it seemed to work normally for me.

I'm intrigued how you got a jpg with a transparent background upon opening (and no locked background layer). Guessing you did some edits before you got to that state? I doubt that has anything to do with the issue, just curious.

I unchecked "Use Graphics Processor" and the Warp Tool functioned normally... however, doing so disables the Ctrl+space bar+drag to zoom in/out, what I get is a selection window (been through this before). Guess one can't have both.
BTW, I removed the background on the JPG for clarity purposes.

Perspective Warp is working fine for me (Windows 10, Photoshop 24.1 Release) so far. Is it happening with any image you try? If it's still happening after a Preferences reset, let us know!

Yes, I tried every randon image and random PS file, all came to the same conclusion.

I've uninstalled it and gone back to the previous install until there is a concrete answer.

To recreate this issue load a image then go to Edit - perspective warp.

Draw a box that is over the edges like the image below.

Then click on Warp and the image turns upside down. (See below image)

Does anyone know why this is happening and how I should fix it?
