P: Photoshop 23.0 - "preset sync error message"

Explorer ,
Oct 31, 2021 Oct 31, 2021

After installing the latest CC Update 22? I am getting the following error message in Photoshop.

"Something went wrong while syncing your presets. Please try to restart Photoshop to recover."

I have restarted about 5 times, including a full cold boot restart but that has not fixed it.

Essentially it is preventing me from using Photoshop because the error message keeps poppin up.

I am using Windows 10, latest update, but not 11.

Surely, someone else has seen this error message. any ideas??? Mike

Hello, I apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing.  We are working on the root cause of this issue.

If you error appears frequently or interrrupts your work, the suggestion is to turn Preset Sync off.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure your machine has internet connection.
  2. Close Photoshop on all machines.
  3. If you haven’t done so, back up your presets. Copy preset files from Adobe Photoshop 202X Settings folder to a safe location (Brushes.psp, CustomShapes.psp, Gradients.psp, P

Turning off Preset sync is not a fix!

I already submitted my Logs via log collector.

  • I solved this by uninstalling PS (delete settings) then deleting all relevant PSv23 settings in user/appdata/roaming/Adobe/Photoshop(Largest version)
  • Reboot.
  • Reinstalled and its working normally apart from some pre-existing bugs that I still need to report (when I have time).

Did you try turning off the Preset Sync setting in your preferences as described above? ( Nov 10/11)  That seems to be the workaround until Adobe fixes the problem.

Yes I did thanks.  So waiting now until Adobe get their act together. I did lose all 'my skies' but have imported these back into PS now.

thanks for your reply

I just received this message a few minutes ago. It says no storage is left when I am barely using 10% of my allotted storage. When can we start receiving solutions to these bugs? I scour these boards for answers, but get mostly ineffective workarounds 2022-06-30_10-27-04.jpg2022-06-30_10-27-50.jpg

Thanks you ClaudiaR99 for the guidance.  However as a very much Non-Computer-Expert, having switched "Preset Sync" to "Off" in Preferences > General, what happens now?  Can I run successfully with Preset Syncing switched to off or are there other steps needed to be taken to restore Photoshop to normal running?

I'm having same problem, I had sync error but once I turned that off, I can't even launch photoshop. It opens and closes right away.  Sync feature is turned off throught  Creative Cloud settings correct and not In photoshop itself?

Yup.... getting this same error. But it completely stops PS from working at all. For as much as we all have to pay it is sad that this happens. Not sure what to do. It's like PS loads and locks up. So frustrating.

This is NOT a solution. Nearly 13 months and counting...

Adobe could care less about its customers. Clearly, they have too many. To save $$$ and solve this issue check out:

Affinity Photo

Procreate

Photopea

Rebelle

ArtRage

Sketchbook

Krita

Gimp

Pixelmator Pro

Pixlr

Hi there

Have already downloaded Affinity. Other issues with PS and LR and the fact
that you can't get hold of anyone is the reason I'm packing my bags and
leaving Adobe!

As others have said, "Workarounds are not solutions."

Especially when the problem is getting persistent "Something went wrong while syncing presets" errors, and the proposed workaround is "Turn off Preset Syncing".  BTW, I see people were having this problem in 2021, but I'm having this problem in February of 2023, with version 23.5.4.

I’m still having a his issue even with a new computer.

It is frustrating. I’m surprised that Adobe isn’t working to address the
issue(s).

Let me know if you hear anything. I’ve given up.

Hi!

Yes, I'm sorry to increase the burden but I have the same issue. As it also slows down PS a lot at the beginning, I tried to deselect the "Libraries Sync" option but unticking it left the same error and even added another message about my swatches not being compatible. I'm using Windows 10 and the very last software version... so I'd be glad if a solution could be provided.

Good luck to the devs!
