P: Photoshop 25.6 Magic wand tool doesn't work in indexed color mode

Photoshop 25.6.0

Mac OS Sonoma 14.4.1

While working in indexed color mode, I'm no longer able to select a specific area (contiguous) or the entirety of a particular color. Instead, the whole document is selected. This is a huge problem for the type of work I do and switching to RGB just to make the magic wand tool function properly isn't usually a good option. Any plans for a fix? I was told to try to revert to Photoshop 25.5.1 but that isn't showing as an option on CC.

Magic wand is selecting all colors in PSD. I have colors indexed down to 2 colors, have adjusted tolerance from 1, increasing the number to no avail. Have toggled alias/contiguous on/off as well to try a combo of options, each not helping me resolve. This seems to happen occasionally. I'd updated my PSD to latest version and worked normally for a moment before it started selecting all colors in my file rather than the one I intend to select. If anyone can help, thanks.

Post a screen capture with relevant panels (Layers at least) showing.

Photoshop won't contiguous paint bucket in Indexed mode. It just paints the whole thing.

The OP hasn't posted a screen capture but if you ARE in fact using indexed color mode, try Select->Color Range.

I'm trying to fill in a section of art using the Paintbucket tool in Photoshop 2024 (25.6.0), instead of filling in the area with the new color, it fills in the selection. It works in RGB mode. Older versions work in Index mode.

Screenshot 2024-04-11 at 8.51.49 AM.pngScreenshot 2024-04-11 at 8.51.55 AM.pngIt fills in the selection in index mode.

Screenshot 2024-04-11 at 8.52.07 AM.pngworks properly in RGB mode. Please let me know why?

I am having the same issue.. it's a deal breaker for me to switch to RGB just to use the wand. This helps with the cleaning and re-distripbution of artwork pixels. Wand and bucket MUST work in indexed mode. ADOBE please bring this back!!!

It appears to be a bug. Use Select->Color Range as a workaround.

Same problem! I use index color mode for most of my work and not being able to use the magic wand or paint bucket is really frustrating! I did find the color range work around but it is not the same. Does anyone know if this will be fixed or must I revert back to an older version of PS?

Thanks for sharing the details. For now, follow Lumigraphics's advice to use Select > Color range.

The team is looking into this.
